The Last Son of Celeste *Online Debut*

Man I love your work!

I'm downloading the 720p version just to see your vfx skills better. Being myself an acadamy of fine arts student and great fan of mattepainting, 3d and compositing it into motion picture I find your work highly entertaining. You did fine job on the mattes from junipero too! Keep up the good work. That inspired me a lot !

Greetings,

Alan

I have watched many non-professional films and this is easily one of the best. Absolutely superb on every front. I can't say that I completely followed the plot but the feel and tone of the piece was so involving that I don't think it matters. By the end I was emotionally caught up in the characters. Beautifully shot with great use of effects and evocative music. The only negative I have is that the female protaganist was slightly on the weak side, although the quality of her audio pick up didn't help. Otherwise simply superb.

didn't skip it, just missed it... i did the first junipero a whole 6 months before the fountain even came out. yes there are similarities, mostly coincidences... if theres was a film that influenced me, its solaris.

Where you at now foo?!?! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!! Bluesteel got PUNKED!

that doesnt change the fact that the costumes and most of the shots of the beginning of the film are blatantly similar. just seemed very uncanny to me thats all.

i'll trust you if you say it wasnt intentional. just seemed too alike to be original.

The only similarity in the costume is she's wearing white, something my actress decided her own. It was shot, the way it was because thats the only way it could be shot with the way the room was oriented (with the desk and the doorway) without breaking the 180 degree rule. It's not like I built the set to be like that, the classroom just happened to be that way.

I happen to know, for a fact, that Darren Aronofsky saw an early clip of Junipero and redesigned costumes, sets and VFX in an effort to make The Fountain more like it.

Unfortunately it didn't help.

Wow, that almost made me cry it was so good. I loved everything about it, I am still a bit confused as to what happened but was amazing anyhow. Acting was very good, camera work was amazing, soundtrack was perfect. Great job, give yourself a pat on the back!!

loooove maturity!

if you would look closely at my posts, i was not KNOCKING his film whatsoever! I thouroughly enjoyed it! I just wanted to check on that similarity! THATS IT!

GROW UP BRO

You should be more careful with the words you chose though, saying i "ripped" it off Aronofsky is a little insulting. Seems like you already came to that conclusion before "checking on the similarities".

u did rip him. regardless of your intentions. thats just what it looks like. im perfectly entitled to my opinion.

never said i had any problem with your film, i just wanted to say that it looked like a DIRECT copy. thats all.

i REALLY liked it, along with Junipero. Thought that one was gorgeous.

I liked it. I always enjoy a movie where the director is also the DP or at least some other technical part of the process and you were the DP as well as the special effects. Nice.

The girls voice was the only part I didn't like. I'm not sure if it was intentional that here voice sounded like it had a more dynamic vocal range, like it was recorded with a better mic than the male leads, but it almost sounded like the fairy from "Legends".

Then you ended on a white credit screen which I think is always better than white letters on black. You should be proud of this piece. I'm amazed that XH-A1 has such great DOF. Did you use a 35MM lens adapter?

Are you kidding me? This is ridiculous. They should give out IQ tests as a qualifier for a membership to this site. Then we could rid ourselves of comments such as these.

How much more clear does he have to make it? Junipero cam out BEFORE The Fountain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not after, or at the same time, but BEFORE.

Main Entry: 1be·fore
Pronunciation: bi-'for, bE-
Function: adverb or adjective
Etymology: Middle English, adverb & preposition, from Old English beforan, from be- + foran before, from fore
1 : in advance : AHEAD <marching on before>
2 : at an earlier time : PREVIOUSLY <the night before> <knew her from before>

You're right, you are entitled to your opinion, which made your original statements, although objectionable, acceptable nonetheless. But what you fail to comprehend is that once the air was cleared and the facts came out, opinion no longer plays a part. You can walk around telling the world that it's your opinion that the sun revolves around the Earth, but most people are just going to call you an idiot.

And about your original comments... I'm not sure if you're one of these people who wanders from site to site just to stir $h!t up or if you have a genuine interest in being an active member of DVXUser.com, but your style lacks class. Don't serve up backhanded compliments around here. We're not idiots, we can see right through it. It's disrespectful. This site is about help and support, and yes, sometimes criticism. If you have criticism, then deliver it with tact. If you have a question about someone's work, ask them, don't just make blind accusations.

OK, bro?

You continue to contradict yourself. You say you don't have a problem with my movie but you call it a "blatant" copy and "rip" off of one your favorite movies. You could of easily and politely asked if my film was a "homage" or "influenced" by the Fountain, but right off the bat you were disrespectful and calling it a rip-off. Even after I explained to you that Junipero was created a whole six months before the Fountain came out, you dismissed it and still called it a "rip". I guess people will believe what they want to believe.

Like I said earlier, Solaris is the movie that influenced me. Maybe you should check it out. Aronofsky himself labeled it as one of his favorite sci-fi movies and influences for the Fountain. I guess The Fountain is just a "rip" of Solaris, as you would call it.

It was a significant achievement from a technical perspective - well produced and great looking. Very inspirational.

I'm not sure that you're looking for this sort of comment since you seem to have a completed product but I think you should really consider doing some additional editing.

The length wasn't the problem per se, you've given the story room to stew in it's own juices which is fine, but you've also provided to much of something that doesn't really work. The movie seems to lack the emotional impact that your staging implies we, the audience, should be feeling, this is a big disconnect. The problem stems from the fact that the central relationship never really gains any traction. You've filled the air during the lunar eclipse scene with a lot hackneyed pseudo-intimate boyfriend/girlfriend talk which really falls flat. This is the critical scene if the audience is to identify with these people and it fails. I would try to find some way to cut down on the dialog. One look could say everything you do with several minutes of dialog and much more. Your actress doesn't help matters either as there is definitely something unsettling about her speech, not sure what exactly but it is a distraction which is never good.

As for the Fountain comments - I would never have characterized it as a rip off even if you hadn't shared it's birth date, somebody ripping off that movie would have made much different choices than you did. Unfortunately for you though the similarity is so clear that you freely invite the comparison. You may have to get used to that BS.
