Ergonomics notwithstanding, everything I have seen comming from DSLR has been high contrast with the whites often overexposed.

You realize on some DSLR's you can turn the contrast all the way (5D mark II) down in fact it is recommended if you are shooting video that you turn the contrast all the way down. Maybe if you actually did some more research on DSLR's you would know that. If you go to film-school why don't you buy one and test it out in stead of altering a non-dslr image and saying it "is" a dslr image, it doesn't really show much credibility...
