if you want to get her somthing cool, get her dance lessons, or pay for a class in somthing shes interested in, or buy her some equipment for it. dont get her a peice of metal and rock. those things will last her the rest of her life, and could change her life. the ring will either just look nice on her finger, and be a cute thing for as long as your together, or somthing your pissed about, and she sells really cheap if you break up. i know your probably head over heels for the girl, but please just listen to all of us who are older and have been there done that. we all think that were the special case and so different when were young, but after repeated times of being wrong about that we eventually wisen up. you should always go to the oldest person you can when asking advice on stuff. ..anyway. good luck with it !
Still though, I remember when I was 17 I did alot of whacky stuff for this one girl. Don't regret any of it either, although I havnt seen her in a good 12 years. Love is Love my friend, and at that age it can be the most powerful thing that hits you.
However, rings are kinda cheezy, specially $400 rings. I got married at John Huston's little island in Mexico a few years ago and our wedding rings no shitting you are a pair of $8 I-Think-They-R-Silver rings from some dude off the beach.
I keep forgetting this Dude is only 17. But hey, my folks met and stayed together since they were 17. It's all in the priorities. If the priority is the gift, go cheap. If the priority (for BOTH!) is in the commitment go Gold.
thats hilarious!!.. my wife's wedding ring cost 4.00 and is definitely not silver ... i think shes gone though about 6 of them now.. they've all been too big but cant be sized cause of the junk metal. mine cost 80.00 and is real gold(cause my wife really wanted to get it bad..), but we figure shell be up to 80.00 in total combined wedding ring replacements about the same time mine needs to be replaced cause ive scratched and dented it in half. Ive had it buffed like 8 times , and its wearing very thin from all the dmg.
but yeah , i just cant justify spending any considerable amount of money on somthing that isnt going to make our relationship any better. if big expensive rings means that you care about someone so much more, than ask all the divorced people why the expensive rings and jewelry didnt save their marriage...
kyle, if your in love, your in love.. a ring makes that no more or less..no stronger or weaker.. no more announced or unannounced.. its the little everyday things that count. spend your $ on something that matters or makes a difference.
All of you guys kick ass...some of you are cheap and still kick ass anyway *cough* *cough*...CaptM thanks for the support! LOL..this is one of the wierdest topics and you guys actually responded from your hearts, thanks to everyone...it has helped me make my decision...I bought the damn ring...what can I say...Oh yeah a couple jobs helped out
I spent $3500.00 dollars on my wifes ring (Platinum, Over a Carat, with bands and bagets) and she spent $800.00 on mine (hand made with Celtic knots wrapping around it 'forever') which is White Gold cause the Hand Made Platinum one was off the charts.
hey now, were not cheap.. just uh ..differenly prioritized.. for example . my wife is a massage therapist (owns her own small business, but mostley is a stay at home mom). we just got her a new 500.00 dollar massage chair cause she didnt like her old 200.00 one, and thought the new one would better suit her clients. she also has a very very expensive massage table. i probably have kajillions in video and audio equipment which is constantly growing. she likes to paint so i got her a nice 200.00 easel for her b-day last year. she got me a dual layer DVD burner for fathers day..(well.. she let me pick it out). and so on and so on... but we still only have el cheapo rings.. go figure.
you see all these things are tools.. they all help us excell at what we like to do , and enjoy. we just choose to spend our money on those sorts of things cause they make us happy and help us reach our goals both common and individual. the rest just doesnt matter to us. but whatever makes you and your girl happy is a good thing. the world is a uniuqe place for unique people. and while i do realize that my family does not have the average or collective mindset that is considered normal ..lol we think it suits us fine.
I was kidding around with the cheapness IAL...I totally understand where you are coming from about the usfulness of what you buy.
For my birthday she bought me loads of clothes and some sweet saltwater fish for the tank in my room...Ahh I should post some pics!! I don't think 400 bucks for one part of the year isn't that bad...I have nice equipment that makes nice money....Plus she is way worth it
:'( kyle , there is no way you can ever make up for the horrible things you said about me .. thats it man! its over! you and me man are through! :'( :'( :'( i hope your happy you made me cry.. and it hurts man.. it burns my heart to hear you say you hate me so much.. why cant you love me..
