If you haven't seen this autobiographical documentary about Robert Evans then you must go out and see it now. If you don't know who Robert Evans is, then do yourself a favor and check out this movie. You will come to find that he is one of the driving forces behind some of the biggest films of the last 50 years (Godfather, Chinatown, Rosemary's Baby, Marathon Man, etc. etc. etc.
). But more than that, this is one of the first films that actually got me fired up in a long time. Evans narrates the entire film as he tells his story, and his personality and character just leap of the screen.
I thought this movie would be boring because it's mostly stills, the thought of which reminded me of PBS docs (most of which I find largely uninteresting). Boy, was I wrong! For one, the still photographs are put together in a way that really moves the story along; it's not just pans of photos one after another as some guy talks the whole time. It's hard to explain, but the stills are given depth where, while you know they're simply stills, you still get a feeling of "being there". Very nice.
Robert Evans is a very interesting character, and he is what makes this otherwise fairly normal doc incredibly watchable. All in all, a must watch in my book. Check it out! ;D
