The interlaced 29.97 look in a 23.97 timeline?

I am working on a film that's being shot in 24pn. Recently I have been thinking about incorporating some "home video" footage and wanted to keep that interlaced look for those segments.

Will 29.97 footage maintain it's interlaced quality in a 23.97 timeline?

Or

Is the only way to keep that look to work with 24p material in a 29.97 timeline?

Thanks

Hope this post makes sense. I'm just trying to find out how much the look of 29.97 interlaced footage changes when dropped into a 23.97 timeline?

For example the director of "City of God" directed a few episodes of a TV show called "City of Men" in which he mixed the look of 24p HD and interlaced HD to and interesting effect. I want to know if the only way to achieve this is to work in a 29.97 timeline.

If that's the case there would be no point in shooting 24pn instead forcing you to shoot 24pa and wasting tons of space on P2 cards.

Can anyone comment on this?

if you're using final cut pro 6 I think you can do it, just drop some 30p or 60i footage into the 24p timeline and RT extreme should handle it and be able to switch back and forth between the two easily.
