F3: 'The Hunt' (F3 still delivering the goods)

Shot the first part of a low-budget short over the weekend. It's the first narrative piece I've shot on the F3 for quite a while, and a handy reminder that just because newer cameras arrive on the scene, it doesn't mean the old ones lose any of their mojo.

It was also my first outing with the new Sigma 18-35mm T/2 PL-mount zoom. And I'm definitely now a fan, great little lens.

Cheers guys, it's a combination of haze, 1/4 Promist and metric tonnes of birdshit and dust on this one.

Really love the light and look of that! Any info about the coloring?
Looks like there's some film emulation going on...

Good eye Michael. There's a high-res scan of some 200T filmgrain overlaid on the image, followed by a Fuji cineon transform LUT that's then pushed through a Kodak print LUT.

What kind of codecs did the F3 shoot with? Did they have s-log on that as well?

Recorded in 4:4:4 SLOG to ProResXQ on the Odyssey7Q.

Looks good Mark. Location is?

It's this old abandoned factory in Yarraville, we got in just in time as they've completely bricked up most of it, and had just started putting up a new fence (to keep artist out) the week before we shot. I'm not sure we could get in there if we were shooting this weekend instead of last.

You probably used Resolve right?

Yes sir.

This looks great Grug. Looks better than the majority of images made with 4K cameras posted on this site. Very nice. I actually have to say, I haven't seen anything from a 4K camera which rivals this on these forums.

Nice ones!
Can we expect a trailer any time soon..?:)
I was often on the fence of buying a used F3 when they became cheaper on the used market.
Do you have yours right from the start...?

Also very keen to see the trailer or actual film after looking at the great stills.

I'm still shooting with the F3. It's very forgiving for unlit fast moving documentary work.

Thanks guys, the remainder of the shoot has been pushed back until October at this stage, so it'll be a little while before we have anything to show, but I'll certainly keep everybody updated.

Cheers

Are these Resolve luts or they found some where else. I'm still on Premiere.

Great look. Having battled with the f3 for months before selling it I wonder if 12bit is the key - I always felt I had to ramp the scurve so far that the footage broke.
