THE HOURS METER

Does the hour meter monitor only head/thread usage or does it monitor every moment the DVX is powered on, whether tape is in the deck or not?

Also, how many "meter hours" before the camera is considered a senior citizen? ;) 500? 1000? 5000?

Thanks, and sorry if this is a repeat topic.

Re: THE HOURS METER

it measures how many rotational hours are on the heads, meaning if you take your tape out while the camera is on, then it won't clock any hours. it counts VCR playback as head hours as well.
i think jarred said he has hundreds of hurs on his heads, and it's still going strong. but i don't know if there are any set number of hours than deem your camera as a senior citizen. :)

Re: THE HOURS METER

the hours meter clicks whenever the tape is engaged in the mechanism,
i.e. rec, play, ff, rew and also when in pause! Especially leaving the camera
in pause adds a lot of time to the hours meter.
After I noticed this, I tend to power down the camera more often.

Re: THE HOURS METER

It takes 2 hrs. for the camera to be considered a senior...at least that's when mine broke. been in the shop for two weeks now. :'(

(sorry, i'm just still bitter about this, looking forward to doing something with it once it's working).

Re: THE HOURS METER

If I rewind alot of tapes will it make the hours meter go backwards? It didn't work for Ferris Bueller, but it might work for the DVX! I'll start rewinding tapes when I get home :) hehehe

Thanks for the replies. My camera has 209 hrs. I'm hoping that it's still in its infancy. Will purchase a consumer model miniDV camera for playback to cut down on the hours of the DVX100. Or do you not recommend cosumer models for playback/input/capture?

Re: THE HOURS METER

The only thing my DVX is used for is shooting. For capture, I use a Sony DSR-30 DVCAM deck for capture and playback. For one thing, the deck is built for playback, fast forward and highspeed rewind.
