the Host

I could be wrong about this but here's some good news:

"If you've been holding your breath for director Justin Lin's long-rumored American remake of his Korean action hit "Oldboy," it sounds as though you may as well exhale: Dark Horizons reports that Lin, at the Sundance Festival this week, told Bloody Disgusting that it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

That's from Rotten Tomatoes and I remember seeing something about it on AICN as well.

thats a good question. as of right now, i think hes still attached to do it if it happens. here's another quote that i found. could be a bunch of crap but lets hope not.

"You don’t want to make a Xerox copy because the original is so brilliant. One day hopefully someone will cross that bridge, but right now nothing’s happening with it. If anything, it’s actually safely tucked away."

although hopefully instead one day someone will realize that remaking great movies is a stupid idea

Fantastic

The Host is F@#$^ Brilliant, and Memories of Murder is one of the grittiest detective movies I have ever seen. I see nothing but good ahead for this director!!!!

ALL his movies? OK, I just checked IMDB, can't believe I haven't done that until now. Has anyone seen "Barking Dogs Never Bite"?

If your taste sways more on the side of contemporary Korean cinema make your way over to New York's IFC Center on February 26th and 27th. The Sixth Avenue theater will being running a little Bong Joon-Ho mini festival of sorts.

Not only will the festival screen Barking Dogs Never Bite, Memories of Murder, and The Host but also two lesser known films of the director's repertoire: Sink And Rise, of the 20-part omnibus film entitled "Twentidentity" and Incoherence, a 30 minute film from '94.

On February 27th, Bong Joon-Ho will be on hand for a sure to be informative Q & A after the screening of his latest hit, The Host.

Mem of Murder is excellent - a simple premise but it's SO well done it is one of my fav's. From the very first scene in MoM, he has this uncanny ability to mix humour with the obscene and make it work. I heard about The Host. I'll be sure to check it out.

The Host

Anyone seen S. Korea's The Host, directed by Memory of Murder's Joon-Ho Bong?

I saw it a few nights ago here in Vancouver and I have to say it was fantastic. Even so, I was so hyped for it that I couldn't help be a little let down.

I really loved it when the monster first appeared - the music was great at creating tension. The characters were well thought out. I cared about this disfunctional family and their search for one of its members. (trying not to spoil).

Just curious what others think.

I loved it. Song Kang-ho is one of my favorite actors.

Yeah, me too. He was amazing in Mr Vengeance.

I really loved the Host. Not your run in the mill creature feature.

Just finished watching The Host on DVD and it was AMAZING! Definitely keeps you on your toes, never knowing which way it's going to take you. Brilliant! If you have a chance to see this film, do it.

Can anyone name another monster movie that's better then the host, besides jaws and aliens. Well, aliens still aint better.

well the first godzilla and the more recent ones are innovative and fun...and the 1990's Gamera's are good if you're into kaiju films.

but there are not many. I love the host.
