the Host

its a great ****ing movie i own i.t man you got to see this it a very great story and production value the director is good too. dvpixl you must watch it. one of my fav film of 2006!

I saw it when it first came out, I think it is overrated, especially with all the people who have compared it to Jaws. Is it another Korean gem like Oldboy? No, but it is worth checking out.

yea it a korean gem, its a great film and it way better most monster films to come out since jaws (not that im saying it is a as good as jaws or whatever but not man monster films have come close). It has the story of jaws (revenge to kill a beast) but using new ideas and a great cast, director, and beautiful cinematography. I love the korean wave of cinema now. For the director second feature I say the dude is on the right track of making a name for him self (his first movie was a crime thriller like se7en).

Watch it and you maybe surprised.

Yeah! I can hardly wait to see it on the big screen! This movie had a lot of hype at Cannes. At the last Vancouver Int Film Fest the director, Bong Joon-Ho, held a sort of Q and A ($20 admission) and I went because I'm a big fan of his Memories of Murder, but the only topic of discussion was The Host.

I really like what's coming out of S. Korea these days.

Yeah Bong Joon-Ho has got skillz. I hope the host comes around my city so i can see it on the big screen but not likely here. :(

I'm sure Hollywood will just remake it for us. Like they are doing with Old Boy. :kali:

I'm pretty sure The Host will play in Vancouver, though.

Remaking Oldboy makes me cry.

Spidey, I don't know about "gem" status, however it is a good movie that people should be checking out. It is a monster movie done right.

I agree with you about the Korean cinema, especially all the films that never get any kind of press here in North America. I have been trying to see the film Kim Jong-Il produced, no luck.

EDIT: Actually it should get a gem status, those people I know who have seen it just praise it more than anything else. In no way does it compare to Jaws, but it is a great film. Hopefully it will get the same kind of "cult" following that Oldboy.

OFF TOPIC: Spidey, have you seen Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring? If not, I suggest checking it out.

Memories of Murder was good.

They are also remaking a romantic comedy "My Sassy Girl" with Cuthbert and Bradford. The problem is, the main character plays an abusive, bold and crazy girlfriend where in Korean culture would seem shocking and unusual... but not so much in the US. so the whole dynamics of what made the film great is already out the window with the US version.

I think at heart I'm against all remakes. Why not praise the original and do something original yourself. Maybe I'll regret saying that once I think it through, but I feel that way often. I think remaking Seven Samurai as The Magnificient Seven was OK, because it was different enough, but even then, the original utterly kicks the remake's @ss.

you know donnie yen has the rights to remake seven samurai?

also yes sassy girl will be lost and just be a goofy movie

battle royale was bought by the guy who produced fast andd furious and XXX films, so its ruined. bittersweet life was bought. i mean i cant wait for my films to be destoryed

If Seven Samurai was completely done over, say, with ninjas protecting a girl's dorm against zombies, and to save money they intercut old footage from Wild Zero and Game of Death, well, that could be interesting.

Sassy girl is already lost and just a goofy movie! And that's how I like it to stay! :)

Now this makes me cringe. I wish people would just promote the original. I would LOVE to see BR on the big screen, and so would tons of people, at least in the major cities.

The guy remaking Old Boy is the young director who did Better Luck Tomorrow. An OK film, not that good, IMO. Who knows? Maybe he'll surprise us all. :undecided

i liked better luck tomorrow but he did 2 movies after that i didnt like if justin lin can pull it out great but chan wook parkis way better you know sam raimi approached chan wook park to do the remake to the evil dead but he declined.
