The Guardian

Well... looks kinda interesting.... I actually want to see this movie because Kevin Costner's in it... I have tickets to the sneak preview tonight. Should be fun...

I'd see it given a choice between it and having my skin ripped off by a washing machine...

Even then it's a toss up.:zombie_smiley:

lemme guess, costner is really good, kutcher a brash rookie with some talent. either costners experience saves kutcher or kutcher's brash new style saves costner. also insert plenty of hero references.

but that's just me. diff'rent strokes and whatnot.

Kevin Costner is what drew me to the film, his acting looks great. Anyway, I'm off, I'll tell you all how it was. Peace.

Ok... saw it tonight, here's my report.

The Positives

Kevin Costner and Ashton Kutchner were both terrific. I was actually pleasantly surprised by how good Ashton did in a serious role. Props to him.

The story and characters were fairly well done, albeit they could have been developed a little more.

The music (when actual score) was good.

I have a much better appreciation for the US Coast Guard

I didn't expect the ending.

The Negatives

The characters were not as developed as they could have been.

It could have been 30 min. shorter.

Every other shot seemed to be slow motion.

They cut to this crap pop/rock music every couple of scenes.

Overall Thoughts

Don't waste your time. This movie had GREAT potential, but because of poor editing choices (so much slow mo) and music choices, and not quite enough character development it falls flat... It's good to see Ashton in this role and he did a fantastic job, but this movie still falls short.

4 out of 10.

If Ashton Kutcher could literally be digitally removed frame-by-frame outta every last shot that his no-talent arse is in...then yeah, The Guardian would most likely be a damned good flick.

Save for that unlikely chain of events though, I'll pass

kevin costner must be really desperate if he's approving ashton kutcher to be in his movie. Oh wait, costner hasn't had a good movie in 15 years. He's probably just happy someone will point a camera in his direction. This puts him two films away from his own reality show.

And Ashton Kutcher... Good God. He must have snatched away Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett's agent. How does this guy get work again?

Put these two together in something called "The Guardian" and you can ensure that if I ever see a frame of this film in my life I will gouge out my eyes and rip out whatever part of my brain is responsible for remembering it. Death to this movie. And death to whoever greenlit this over a more deserving screenplay.

Even if you got rid of Kutcher, you'd still be stuck with Costner...not much better, I'm afraid.

Sorry, Blaine, but I gotta call bullshit.

It's one thing that George Lucas is blasted somewhere on the dvxuser globe every minute (hell, I cursed his name myself while on line at Walmart the other night plopping down another 60 bucks for the unedited Star Wars DVDs.)

But...

Kevin Costner?

I cannot for the life of me understand the hatred of him that has spread like wildfire through the film discussion forest. Costner is (and always has been) a throwback performer to the leading men of yeasteryear...not to mention that he is a damn fine actor in his own right.

The transfers were awful on top of it. I'm officially over Star Wars. Er, oh yeah, The Guardian...yeah, I don't really want to see it.

the quality is fine by me...

it is the same as my beloved (and long lost) laserdiscs from the mid-eighties.

Edit:

And besides...
you don't want any more "tweaking" done to them...we all know what that snowballed into last time around (a vicious never-ending cycle of tweaks.)

I agree... and I'll go further to say Ashton was great in this film as well!

I didn't see it and i can tell you it sucks just by the trailer.

Why would I waste my time on this derivitive hollywood garbage?

The summer season is over, I think they missed the boat (no pun intended).
