I reviewed a ruige monitor a while ago and noted that the hotshoe mount failed on me, sending the monitor flying at one point.
As result, I set out to find the greatest hot shoe mount in the world, price being no object.
Do yourself a favor if you're mounting something heavy or massive on top of your camera:
the Manfrotto 492LCD MICRO BALL HEAD - MA492LCD

I's not cheap, $50 but this is actually a mini tripod head converted to a hot shoe mount. It's heavy, built rock solid and
my monitor sits there like it and the camera' been forged from a single piece of metal. I'm pretty sure you could
stand on top of the thing. When you lock it in place, I think the earth would stop rotating before it failed.
