The Great Hollywood Rip Off (idea thieves)

I can't speak for Avatar, since it's not really the sort of movie I'd want to sit through, but D9 was strongly affecting for a "great white hope" flick. Actually, I wouldn't put it in the same category as Last Samurai or Dances with Wolves. Wilkus is no chosen one or leader of men (or aliens). He selfishly gets in the way more often than not. I'd lump it in more with White Man's Burden, which is just as self indulgent in 'white guilt'. But at least the point is to take it and feel disgusted by it, not become absolved of it. D9 still goes on to paint the Nigerians with a grossly broad stroke, however, which was confusing.

Cameron (Avator, Titanic, Aliens etc.) is described by a biographer as "part-scientist and part-artist" - maybe he leans on the "scientist" part to sell his writing. Does he view all problems as technological? Feels to me like he does the extravagant, then tacks on a script. Feels like he might be amused that people are that interested in characters. It will be very interesting to see what he comes up with next.

hmm...interesting.

I think were just supposed to group them in with the other humans- taking advantage of the aliens only in a different way, tho the movie (as far as I remember) doesnt hint at how were supposed to feel about their spot on the socioeconomic ladder.

so I guess

humans are mean
cat food aliens are ugly and weird but have feelings too.

oh well guess the movie cares more about aliens being oppressed rather than actual people.

click click hhrmm slurp.

Its kind of like in Return Of The Jedi when the Ewoks thought C3PO was a god and Chewbacca was probably like dudes what the hell Im right here Im like a giant version of you.
