The Great Diffusion Test

You have a job ahead of you. You have to come up with consistent parameters for the test, like foot candles or stops. Will the light be at a fixed distance from the diffusion and your subject form the diffusion. Will you adjust the output of the light, the stops on your camera, or neither and just let it blow out when it's Hampshire. Is a 5k big enough to give you a workable stop for all the diffusion?

I am interested in what a black silk looks like.

If you could add a book light that, would be lovely. Though a book light is built because you can't get the light away from the diffusion. I use Bead as a bounce in a book light, what about foam core?

Which brings me to the bounce thing. It's really a different animal intended to achieve a similar outcome as diff. Fill the card with light or not?

I am excited to see this, yet it does not sound like an easy undertaking.
Good luck

That is great. I always wanted to know which material would have the least light loss yet gives a nice diffusion as well. Thanks Ryan !

How about a material called DC fix. It is a translucent flexible sheet ,the clear sand variety, that many use it to diffuse flashlights and say it has minimal light loss.?
I beleive that Berlin Wallpaper in NJ has it in rolls and very cheap too.

Don't forget Hampshire Frost. And the old Shower Curtain sheets, if one can get that stuff any more.

Two of my favorites.

Also, you may find it interesting to note deviations between brands. 216 from Rosco is a bit different than the same from Lee and so forth. But then you could drive yourself nuts in the variations.

When I get a left over roll of Lee I take it to Expendables Recycler, & trade for Rosco.
