The Good Fight

Hey guys,
We just finished our 4th short film titled "The Good Fight" (20 minute short)

It was filmed with 1 DVX100, Edited in Final Cut Studio and used Garage Band/Soundtrack for most of the music. We grabbed most of our Sound Effects from Digital Juice.

Our crew consisted of 5-6 people from start to finish (not including actors) and we had a budget of... well... pretty much zero.

I have a decent Arri lighting setup but most of the time we were restricted to little home depot specials.

You can read some production notes here:

And view the finished product here:

I filmed and edited the entire piece so if you guys have any questions or comments I'd love to hear them.

Just as a sidenote: We were kinda going for a twilight-zone-ish type of film. We will be doing a sci-fi feature in a few months so we wanted to get our hands into the genre.

I enjoyed it for the most part. I found the ambient sounds (busses, trucks, street sounds) distracting at times to the point where it was hard to hear the dialog.

Foiled again!

There were a few ugly sound edits and instead of fixing them the correct way I opted to cover them up with ambient noise. So I just brought my ambient sound track up a notch in a few spots.

I agree with you that it is a bit distracting. Guess I'll have to do it the right way :)

Thank you for your comment and thank you for watching the film.

There was some good shooting here. Just keep going, you'll make it. I'm pretty sure you know the technical problems. The main thing is you made you're fourth movie and you're ready to move on.

I wonder if you'd be kind enough to tell me how you got such great encoding. The quality of the clip was incredible. Can you give me your compression format?

Thank you guys for the comments.

As for the codec, I export it out of Final Cut using compressor.
Here are the exact specs of the web movie:

Thanks for the help with the codec. It's great when you can put a whole 20 minute movie online and have it playback without interruption. Things are changing very fast. Soon we'll be able to put entire movies online.

Good luck with the feature.
