The Good Book?

I'm considering the purchase of a HD100 manual titled The Filmmaker and VIdeographer JVC-HD100 Handbook: HDV Technology, Production and Post-Production, by Steve Mullen. Before I plunk down the cash, I'd appreciate your opinion as to the book's relevance.

I refer to the JVC Operator's manual frequently, but, like most equipment manuals, this one provides detailed instructions on how to change menu settings, but doesn't explain why the settings should be changed in the first place.

Your opinions and (even better) experience with this book will be most helpful.

I bought it a month ago and im very satisfied with it. Very deep, Steve knows a lot about all the things he write in this book. Not only concerning the HD100 but all digital video matters, like a deep explanation of codecs, of CCDs,... About the cam he offers practical tips for shooting (a chapter for 24p), explains the different workflows available, how to avoid the SSE, the gamma curves,....

It worths the money you pay.

Very technical, but it comes in handy. Very well researched.

Thanks, Ivan

I find his way of explaining things excessively technical and not particularly clear. His technical knowledge is staggering though, a guru's guru. I find Barry Green's explanations much clearer and accessible. Now if Barry would just write a damn hd100 manual...

As it turns out, that's a really good question. After the reviews (above) I went back to the website advertised on the JVC third party products page, but found that the recommended handbook is inoperative.
