Today marks the spot....Since this date last year, I have watched exactly 10 hours of television. I'm uninformed and I'm proud!
 
I dont watch TV either Mino. It just seems such a waste of potential. I mean, we have this miracle technology...the ability to broadcast moving images and audio to all humanity, and look at how it gets used. Quite the barometer for where we stand as an evolved species.

But.......The Glass Tit?..............Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Ok.......I get it. Good one!

I love the name....It's the evolution of "The Boob Tube" I wish I could say I'd come up with it, but alas, I use it second hand! My biggest ***** with it is how it can suck the very life out of some people, almost like Heroin. Like any other drug, not all are affected to it's addictive design....But there are some, out there, who are totally within it's spell. I'm one of those weirdo's who sees the whole thing as having no where near enogh research done on its effect on people, culture and the very fabric of our day to day lives. I get my headline news from DVXuser, if there's anything to know, you guy's will post it and I will become informed. A couple more questions to those I know who do watch TV will give me enough info to slot it as gibberish, or news I need to investigate further. Shame too about telivision, because I love moving images and story telling and as you said it doesn't live up to its potential.

But I am a COMMIE bstard...It's all so clear to me now! All these years I had myself deluded into thinking I was on the right track have been thwarted by your last post...I'm ****ing doomed!!!!
 
I stopped watching when the reality stuff started to clog everything. no great writing, faux storytelling, etc. I am amazed quite often, by some great stuff on PBS here in the US. unfortunately, i think their budget was aimed or got cut after they aired so many George W. bush bios..(and let some truth be told...)

also stopped watching much tv after I joined this website!
 
Actually...I personally believe that the research has been done, and it is almost 100% having its desired effect on society.........think about it...........not to get....poitical or anything. Hey..what happened to that "lips sealed" smiley?

OK...I'll admit it. My wife got me to watch a couple of episodes of Rock Star INXS! And to me, the problem is not so much that the contestants are not right for INXS, but rather INXS is not the right band for them! I think on the very last show, they should bring back Neal and make the announcement that he won, and rather than him being the new singer for INXS, they will simply be HIS backup band!

But I really am not a TV person. I watch the rare show now and then. Lets see.....the last thing I watched was a PBS doc that proved genetically that the Austrailian Aboriginees were descendents from a group that migrated coastally from Africa. There was a mark in their DNA that they shared with Africans, but the Aboriginees had marks the Africans didnt have, which somehow proved it, and that the Africans couldn NOT have come from Austrialia as some of the elders tried to claim.

They also described exactly how Europeans came from Africa and became light skinned. For one thing, the climate (this was Ice Age era) was not as intense. Another was the fact that they did indeed become cave dwellers, and began wearing skins that covered most of their body. Once they started doing this, their skin had to adapt so that whatever skin was bare could be more efficient in turning sunlight into vitamin D, which meant it had to lose pigmentation to step up operations. Fascinating. Though I still havent completely dropped my theories of genetic tinkering from aliens.

You're correct and in my opinion a debate would not be political, more let's call a spade a spade! I....am now in italics....So be it!....Ahem. I'm still suggesting not enough deployment of information has been delivered to the masses despite all the studies. Don'y get me wrong, I'm not advocating abandoning the medium, I've just not had any reson to turn it on for a year. This stems from a general lack of interest in program content...And commercials....Commercials in general are not fit for human consumption!!!!....Then again, not watching TV is condusive to fools like me having too much time on their hands to spew out this crap!

I admit over the last year I have watched very little televison; probally less than i have in my whole life. I have watched a few things here and there:

The first 3 or 4 episodes of LOST
The first 6 or 7 episodes of SURVIVOR (I still like it)
Some playoff basebal here and there
Some playoff Basketball here and there
Some Grand Slam Tennis

..and then Random crap here and there but nothing religous.

I do however watch countless movie after movie after movie after movie.

I'm suggesting that they are intentionally witholding the info....I mean, they arent going to come right out and say that they are using TV to keep us docile and occupied and spending like mad! It's their direct pipeline of influence and puppetry.
Think about the sheer volume of humanity who works their arses off all day, and then just wants to come home a plop down, vegging out to the TV till they go to bed like good little citizens. Then going out Saturday and buying up all the crap theyve told em about, vegging out again all day Sunday to rest up for the next week of churning out more crap for them to sale. See, at all times the individual is making crap, watching the parade of crap, and buying crap.....seems a little like a gerble running in a wheel.
 
Oh, nosir, I know it exists, I just think it's not used all that often.....relatively speaking. There are certainly exceptions though.
 
About the only TV I've watched lately is HD stuff. Since buying the new HDTV a couple months ago, I hate watching standard def stuff.

INHD1
INHD2
 
I wasn't a glass tit man until recently. Now I'm hooked on Battlestar Galactica and the 4400.

Everything else on is pretty much detritus.
 
OK . . .

Anyone who seriously thinks television is some grand conspiracy to pacify the people and keep them docile . . .

. . . lets a whole lot of people off the hook for their own voluntary sloth.

And Isaac, I too, am "addicted" to BSG.
