The framerates

If that's the final list, then I'm really happy. There's a lot to choose from and I'll be using that feature pretty much exclusively for slow motion and not undercranking. They've mentioned they've been having difficulties with the noise floor on frame rates slower than 12, so it would probably be pointless to have anything below that if the picture isn't up to snuff. I really can't wait to see this thing in action!

I'm assuming they're the final list, since up until today the page simply said "some variable frame rates". Especially since the final cam was supposedly delivered to Jan yesterday.

Very interesting... Ok - now that is listed as the "Variable frame rates in 720p mode" does this mean the only frame rates that are available on 1080p are 24p, 30p and 60p? Am I reading too much into this - or did I assume too much previously?

Cheers, Nathan.

There is no 60p in 1080 mode, just 60i. It has also been long stated that the variable framerate function will only be a part of the 720 progressive system (as the 1080 standard is interlaced and DVCPROHD doesn't have a provision for 1080p natively). To acheive 24p and 30p in 1080 mode, they are doing the same 2:3 and 3:2:2:3 pulldown that is used in the DVX. This is revolutionary in the sense that you do get true 24p 1080 footage from the HVX, but the other variable framerates are not available in this mode.

24p/30p/60i are the only framerates they've ever discussed for 1080.

Depending on the available shutter speeds, I'd go so far as to say that you'll be able to get 12p and 15p too, with a little playback adjustment in post.

I am a dunce... *laugh* - serves me right for posting when I've got food poisoning and my heads not on right....

Thanks for setting me straight guys!

Oh don't go and blame it on the food poisoning! ;) j/k of course.

It's easy to mis-read those spec sheets some times with the huge mess of numbers, framerates, image sizes, etc...

1080/60p is still a little ways off from being commonplace, but it'll be nice when it is.

If its manipulated in post - why just 12p and 15p? it cud be any number right (2,4,8,10...)?

No, I'm not talking about just chopping up the sequence, I'm talking about 100% frame-accurate simulation. With the DVX, shooting 24p at 1/24 shutter yields exactly 12 unique frames per second -- in post, you just have to speed it up to double-speed and you'll have a direct and perfect 12p. Same with shooting 30p at 1/30 yields 15p.

Equal if we'd have 12p @720p (HVX) ?
