The Forgiven - Won runner up in contest hosted by IFC / Ubisoft

A short film weaving the stories of a victimized child, an aged assassin, and a cold employer together in the past and present.

I just found out that my short won 2nd place in its 'assassin's themed' contest, and am very thrilled!

Info: Shot over the summer with some friends, from preproduction to the end of post, it took two weeks to complete. Used the dvx100b, edited in FCP. Budget was relatively low. The actors aren't ... actors.

Enjoy - and I love feedback, good or bad. So feel free to voice your opinion!

Too tired to give an in-depth critique, but one thing that I immediately noticed was poor sound effects on the gun. They sounded plastic, when they were being loaded and clicked around in general. Some better sound effects on that, including subtle metal clanking when they're being pointed, can really add to the realism. It looked good, but I think the shots could have been steadier in some places.

True. They sounded plastic because, well, they were plastic. We were too pressed for time to pay attention to certain aspects of sound design, although, now, I'm doing a re-edit and really polishing everything. I'll definitely keep that in mind. Our tripod lost a leg halfway through the shoot, thus resulting in more handheld camera work than originally expected.

Thanks.

Some creative cuts and shots. It was nice to be surprised by things you chose to cover in the scenes, though some seemed uneven. It's much better to take chances, I think.

So bravo!

Good job man, congrats.

I've submitted my movie NO MIDDLE GROUND to that festival and for some reason they did even selected it. BUt finally the ifc guys call me up and told me that they're going to show my short at IFCtv.
