The Forgetful Boyfriend

Hello everyone!

I've worked with several friends on various shorts for a few years now. An opportunity to make a short came up for a contest at my place of work, so I jumped at the opportunity. I wound up with a finished product that I am very proud of. This is my first short film that is completely my baby. Fellow dvxuser Karl151k was kind enough to assist me by directing. Please take a look and let me know what you think. It's only a minute of your life, and a fun one at that. Thank you for your support and any words of wisdom you have to offer!

I liked the way it was shot. Had a nice, old school feel to it from those commercials that had the cheesy music. Well done, but what was in the box? Just a creative, gift idea from red envelope? Curiosity always gets the best of me!

Great dude. Was it really shot with the flip camcorder?

Props!!

Actually, Red Envelope had that bumper prepared and pasted it to the end of all their entries, regardless of how they were shot. We actually shot this movie with a Nikon D80 using the technique shown here.

I wish the Flip camcorder gave as shallow DoF as that! ;)

Gwyneth Paltrow's head.... ;o)

Can't take credit for that genius answer though. The credit goes to my friend Kirk.

23.5 hours. It was a long, tiring day. Luckily, both Geoff (the boyfriend) and Rebecca (the girlfriend) have done this kind of work before (with the 1/4 speed acting for the D80) so that helped things to go smoothly.

The most tiring aspect of the whole thing was trying to get the focus pulls just right. It becomes an issue because there's no way to mount a FF to the camera, so I'm just relying on tape marks right on the lens barrel. And when you have an f1.4 50mm wide open, it becomes quite a hassle. ;) Fun times though.

If you had a rod system of any sort you could.
Besides that i think the tape idea is the best. Just mark your in and out and figure out how long you want the rack to last and make that many marks between your in and out.
