The forest in DVX...

Just got back from a 2 day location scout in the Santa Cruz mountains. I shot 3 1/2 hours of footage in and around Henry Cowell State Park. Everything was shot in 24p advance. The settings are all over the place. The film we are scouting for will actually be shot in HD on the sony/panavision HDW900, but I think the DVX footage looks very good. Ofcourse a location like this doesn't take much to look good. Let me know what you think.

Re: The forest in DVX...

SOME NICE GRABS,that mist is beautiful.. gotta love it! only suggestion is to TRY TO STAY AWAY..(sorry for caps lock) from the open wide end of the lense, the barrel distortion is very noticeable with the straight line trees  everywhere, and it make them look bendy.. at least just stay above 07 for zoom unless your environmet wont be so telltale.

GANDALF!!!!!! :)

Nice location, nice images. iamloser is right about staying away from the extreme wide, unless, of course, you're trying for a slightly foreboding psychological effect on the viewer. If the forest is a place of uncertainty for your characters, keep the 'bendy" look.

Grabs look great...looks like where I live only without the snow. It's going to be a challenge in falling light though...

Re: The forest in DVX...

What's the best way to get rid of the six-flared star pattern? It can be cool, but sometimes, I'd really like to lose it.

Re: The forest in DVX...

that particular pattern is caused by the dvx stock lense optics,,you can really lose it unless you just toss on a polarizing filter to cut it down, or use a nice mattebox, and dont shoot into the lights.

Re: The forest in DVX...

Thanks everyone. The barrel distortion doesnt bother me that much. This footage looks awsome on a video monitor. I've also been doing some color correction with great results. I love this camera!
