The first official DVXuser short film on DVD !

Thanks for the feedback Matt - yes the old boom pole drifting in shot - much discussed - sadly by the time it was pointed out the DVD's had already been pressed...but indeed well spotted - it's only in there for like 4 frames.

Glad you got something out of it - did you get a chance to do the commentaries/behind the scenes ?

I'm gonna' pop the disc in and watch everything I haven't seen yet. So far I've watched the movie 3 times... once right when I got it... once with my GF... and once with my roommate. I guess it's time to see the rest.

Hey didn't you use a Schoeps for this? I'm wondering what was booming the basketball scene (the talking, not the game)... The sound was great throughout the entire production, but I was especially impressed at the balance of ambience from the reverberrant space of the b-ball court... and the isolation of the actors' voices. What mic was booming that?... and where did the mic signal go from there?... into the cam or into something else?

I'm sure you've discussed this elsewhere... maybe even with me once... but hey, we're keeping the thread bumped up!... and I really think every DVX owner should have a copy of this as a benchmark of work to shoot for... BTW have you seen the "Gay Boyfriend" video? This is another benchmark production that shows off the capabilities of the DVX in the hands of a skilled editor and post-productionist. (Is that a word?)

yes I've seen gay boyfriend - though not on DVD...

as to the sound stuff - most of the gear is listed on Eric and Eric's website...

www.acmesound.net - they handled the sound duties (mixing and boom op-ping - is that a word ?? respectively)

so now the sound did not go straight into camera but to the mixing board and then to camera...we had no steadicam shots but we did use radio mics once - on the restaurant scene where we were filming from across the road with cars driving in between - we couldn't lock up the road (we only had a permit for one side) and we didn't want to run cables across...

P.S. I agree - every DVX owner should have one - but of course I would say that...

a combination of ultracons that went up to +8 at times?

no orange filters but we did use chocolate, yellow +3 and +2, and a combination of ultracons that went up to +8 at times. some black promists as well but todd probally would use nets now. Antique Suede would also be in there.

I assume for the metal shop scene, you guys used ultracons, right? So what exactly was the combination? A Tiffen 72mm ultracon only goes up to +5, I think.

You may well be right about the ultracons going to +5 but I think you can stack them...jarred will know this better than me - mind you it's been a while ago so I don't know if he can remember it...

one of the ways in which the dvxuser filters DVD came about is discussions after the Art History shoot - since Todd (the DP) and Jarred thought it would be really cool to demonstrate to people how the various filters looked - if you don't have that dvd already - go buy it...
