The Favourite

Rockin the Boat
I'm surprised there has been no discussion of this movie here, considering it's a pretty ballsy and somewhat innovatively done film from a technical POV. It's not a perfect movie, but I give it massive props for trying something new - especially the use of sound, really pushing it to the limit psychologically, but ultimtely I think it works. The use of super wide lenses and blown whites in windows is daring in a period drama, takes away from any feeling of stuffiness that's so prevalent in these kinds of movies. The psychological exploration of these relationships is pretty interesting, and it's nice to see three female leads. Acting is superb, and Olivia Colman totally earned her Oscar. I think it could be trimmed a bit as it runs a bit long, and not everything works, but this is a director worth watching - I'm not familiar with any other work by Yorgos Lanthimos, but I'll try to catch his other stuff too.

If you’re interested in checking out his other films, I’d definitely recommend Lobster - it’s got some fantastically surreal atmospheres going on. As weird as it is great! J

:( I've pretty much given up posting here. Seems like no-one watches movies...

How dare you?! I've been posting tons and tons of threads about movies and TV - and we know folks watch content, cause rating and stuff, you know. OK, I'm kidding. You're right, it's not a very active forum. But I figure if I post and nobody answers it's my fault. If I made a post that inspired people, they'd answer - like in this thread. Therefore I take the blame. I'll keep trying until it's clear I'm just no good, and I'd better stop torturing the audience :) What puzzles me is why more talented people don't step into the breach and do a better job than me. C'mon, folks - let's do it!

If I see that OldCorpse has written a post, I always read it. I'm a bit of a lurker.

By the way I disagree somewhat but not altogether about what you had to say regarding season 2 of Marvelous Mrs. Maizel.

I’ve only seen dogtooth. Definitely combines taboo surealism within societal norms... or the other aay around... or both, or neither.
