Quick snap of the F55 on Steadicam, this pic taken on the weekend for a concert rehearsal;

Although this is quite a light setup fortunately the Steadicam Flyer LE can handle up to 19lbs so its perfect with the F55 and heavier loads once you add matte box, better glass, remote FF, transmitter, etc...

Unfortunately the Flyer LE comes stock with a SD monitor with only a composite video input.

Fortunately the Sony F5/F55 comes with a composite signal output via the 'test out' port.

Unfortunately in 23.98 or 24p modes the F5/F55 camera can not output a composite signal (the F3 could however).

Fortunately in 25p, 29p and 59p the F5/F55 can output a composite signal so for my rehearsal I put the camera in PAL mode and flew around.

Unfortunately because I need to shoot in 24p I was going to need a way to put my existing HD SDI monitor on the Flyer and get a signal from the camera. I had no interest in buying a Decimator signal converter, but that would work if I had one.

Fortunately I performed this non-destructive modification yesterday to the Flyer to get me by for a few days using my existing 7" LCD monitor, the Ikan D7W.

Thanks, the great thing with this setup is it was very light overall and easy on my back. The concert I shot was 2.5 hours long with one intermission and I shot continuously without any breaks in the recording. The camera was always moving around between musicians, there were around 7 performers in total.

I haven't steadicam'd in a while but it all came back to me very fast and I was quite thankful I didn't flip down those center steps at all. :)

Thanks.

That was behind the scenes pic where the light in the background dominated exposure, but time permitting I will try to upload some footage one day.

I hope that there where other fixed camera's too. 2,5 hours of steadicam shots is boring to watch. I have a steadicam of my own and some clients tend 'overuse' the flying shots. Three or four fixed camera's is way more lively to watch. Yes, more expensieve too.
For the rest I admit, I'm green of envy. A F55 on a Flyer!
