"The Extra Ordinaries"

This is my newest project, and the first one that we're shooting in HD. It's a pilot presentation called "The Extra Ordinaries". When it's done, we're going to shop it around to the usual suspects and see where it goes. If it goes nowhere, then we're going to distribute it ourselves as a webisode series.

Here's some footage edited into a long-ish teaser trailer.

I'll post more stills and video here as we shoot, and when it's all done, I'll post the final product. Hope you enjoy and any feedback is welcomed. Thanks.

dude, you won 25k huh? you are one lucky man. thats incredible. -- i have so many questions. first, who hosts your website? that download speed was unbelievable!!!

neat! Looks great.

may i ask how you got the light on the guys face , the guy opening the letter with the camera directly below him with the sky above his head?

Pretty nice piece with a nice tie in ending. The only thing I would think would be to possibly tie this together a bit throughout the piece. Possibly with some more text... or a bit of dialogue... but then again, it's nice to keep it auster and somber too. The music is pretty good towards the end, but kind of wobbly and a bit strong at parts.

Overall looks quite interesting.. I'd just say that possibly more dynamics and contrast would be good.. as it sets to it's own pace. But again, this is a style piece and you accomplish it so well... Now, I sound fickle and whishy washy.. which is good anyway.

Also got say that in these day and times, it's so great to have web and self-distribution to fall back onto. Or atleast to allow these avenues to get you some recognition and some attention from the might bastards in Hollywood and in TV land. I am about to do the same thing. and come to the realization that my DVDs.. my dvxuser posts that I'll make.. the myspace, the youtube.. the whatever, are all SEEDs to get the word out there. To be able to sell the Buzz. Sell the Sizzle and not even the steak, as it would be metaphorically.

Thanks for showing and good luck. Would like to see more.. and see what a final piece looks like... Id's also concure that the low-angle shot of the guy with the clouds is THE MONEY. Looks fabulous!

Yeah, I did win some cash. I was able to buy the HXV, a Mac Pro, FCP Studio, and all the lighting and sound goodies I needed. It's a really cool thing.

As for hosting, I go through gate.com. There's nothing special as far as my hosting package, but I'm glad to hear that the d/l speed is quick for someone, at least.

That shot was a combination of golden hour lighting, and a Photoflex soft gold reflector from about 10 yards away. It's my favorite shot so far, and I'm going to try to do some more stylistically cool stuff, without going overboard.

Thanks alot for your comments. Yeah, I agree that this a bit on the slow side, and doesn't really tell anything about the plot, but the last thing I wanted to do was start it off with an "In a World Where Ordinary People...blablabla". So I went this route.

As for contrast, there will be plenty. I can't say much, but I can say that the rest of the pilot has gun and crossbow fights, ninja-type asassins, hand to hand combat, murders, and explosions. We start shooting that stuff this Sunday. I can't wait.

My settings are 720/24pn and we shot this stuff in Cine D mode. I'll probably do some adjusting and use another setting for the high action stuff.

We have two 4gb cards that we swap out to a laptop.

As for lighting, I have two Mole-Richardson 200w lights, and two 650w lights. Most of the spaces were small and near a window, so I dont think we used more than 2 at a time. For our outside stuff, we just used natural light and had a Photoflex white/soft gold reflector to help balance out the light from the sun.

It's a nice compact lighting kit that really seems to serve us well.

My 2 pesos:
(this is regarding trailer #2)
COLOR CORRECTION, maybe a granier look, or at least make it more filmic... looks a liitle on the video side... I would also experiment with faster shutter speeds...
FASTER cutting... it would be more intense if the "action" would be quicker...
her reaction to the bombe exploding, the revealing of the bomb itself, her running out of bullets, etc... could've been more quicker... maybe it's just me...
good luck with the project... looks good!

Yeah, I agree with you on everything. I maybe should have noted it, but this is just raw footage cut quickly together for pitches and etc.

The final product will be fully CCed, and cut alot tighter. Thanks for the feedback.
