The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

Put this thread to sleep. Never seen so much speculative salivating. I think y'all should empty your drool bucket. Nice words aside, lousy codec and flicker, no out to capture anything better. Until that gets solved, this thread is like waiting for that pig to grow up so you can eat some ribs. In the meantime have a burger and shut up already.

Come on..you make it sound like reduser.net

You don't like this thread, just don't read it. I haven't had so much fun in a long while. We all know that this might not be the solution to all solutions but at least it took our minds off our HVXs, et al for a little while and opened up a very good conversation about the future of this kind of motion capture technology. Again, with all due respect if you don't like this thread there are so many others out there that may be more to your liking. You can also visit other forums if you like. Let us have our fun, go complain somewhere else, thank you.

Things are starting to heat up around here...Cabin fever???
I feel the thread has been looping it self after some pages. People seem to be asking the same questions, giving the same answers, posting the same videos, having the same doubts.
A mod should change the first page of the thread to "what we know so far" and then post a structured text with what was confirmed, our expectations, our fears, pictures, videos, etc.

I don't understand why people complain about this thread. Don't like it? Don't read it then. For the rest of us it's a great thread filled with the (limited) knowledge of a very interesting camera. Of course we don't have all the answers now, but that doesn't mean we can't discuss it and try to dig up every detail we can find.

I say rock on. :)

Agreed!

I never say I didn't like. In fact I've been reading it everyday...but only one page in every 10. It's just that for new people coming into the thread for information it's simply absurd to go over 85 pages of asking 50 times if you can lock the exposure (can you ?? hahaha) when you can simply have things summarized directly on the beginning (like it was done in many other threads).

Holy Image-Capturing Revolution Batman, this thread is a monster. Now I know where everyone went from the original D90 thread in the DVXUSER News section.

Now, as excited as I am about this D90, especially since I need a good D-SLR anyways, I have to wonder if Canon could just sneak in and steal Nikon's thunder. They may already have a new SLR with a movie mode that could be announced soon. Then again, this is Canon, who sometimes waits an eternity to come out with really new stuff. I was hoping it would be the 50D and would offer 24p at 1080p. Oh well.

I have to agree that as much as I like the overall D90 package, I have to admit that so far the codec is just not looking too good. This might not be the end of the world but with the added pain of dealing with the exposure silliness and the rolling shutter, I am not sure if I could really use this even for any personal projects, and especially not on professional jobs. Also, the fact that there are not proper XLR ports for audio limits it even more. Sometimes we can't always do sound separately. I really hope I am wrong about these problems though. I will still probably pick one up.

I think that if Canon wanted to they are in a better position to offer us what we really want, which seems to be either a better movie mode on a D-SLR or maybe an EOS mount, full frame HD video camera. My reasoning for this is that they already have experience with the sub $10,000 prosumer / indy filmmaker HD video market. Every HD camcorder they have offered so far does 1080i or 1080p. They already have their mitts into both HDV and AVC-HD. I don't think that the D90's image would be as blocky or as oil painty as some have mentioned if it was able to do up to 24mbps AVC-HD. Come on Canon, put these goodies into an EOS mount AVC-HD XH-A2 for the win.

I'm still most likely going to get the D90 unless Canon surprises us by Photokina time at the end of the month. I agree with those that said we need a Nikon rep on here because it would be awesome if Nikon entered the video market with a real contender -- a prosumer priced, Nikon mount, HDV-minimum, 24p HD video camera that is competitive with Canon, Sony, Panasonic, and Red.

Yeah! Who cares if we repeat ourselves like lunatics! Very soon we will have answers to all the questions and we will look back at this past few days and say "Heck we were part of that discussion". If the camera works for motion capture fine if it doesn't no harm done. For those of us that will use it for our photography it will work out good. Keep having fun guys.

Yeah......

It's like someone coming over to our table were talking at , and telling us "" stop your conversation, it's stupid "". How rude.... No one asked you to come to our table in the first place. I mean anyones welcome, but geeez........

I have to say this is a good point and to me reveals how brilliant this move is by Nikon. If they had decided to just throw a full-fledged video camera out there then it might have been a bit much. The fact that it is embedded in an SLR means that if the movie mode doesn't work perfectly then they don't have a bunch of people who think the camera is worthless because the video isn't the best of the bunch. Most people will be getting this primarily for stills anyways. I am definitely interested in D-movie mode but I can see using this for stills a helluva lot more than for video.

Thought:

IR motion picture using a modified d90. Like this but moving:

People already hack plenty of d80/70/50's by removing the IR cut filter infront of the sensor. Might need to get a body just for IR...

#86 Pages and counting.
By this weekend we'll be in hundreds.

Nikon kinda rushed this to market.
Locked exposure????!!! (worst thing about this camera)

I predict this glitch is already on the camera and the only answer is
to wait for the second generation version, when Nikon really puts efforts
to go all out to support people who want to do actual serious HD projects also.

This is the start of a new Hero. Just needs to mature a little more.

Manual exposure adjustments in DMovie should be such a simple solution. Did they neglect it? If they did, it would be so hard to understand. Firmware solution?
