The end of 35mm adapers and hv20s....

I'll bet retailers will be splitting them up. Especially locally owned camera shops... you go in and say you just want the body, they'll sell you the body. Circuit City told me Sunday... local shop said they won't be getting theirs until next week.

I definitely don't want the kit lens. I've got plenty of lenses already, including the kit lens from my D80...

It'd be weird to see nikon push the worlds first dslr to record HD video and then come out with another months later...what's their slogan there? the worlds second dslr to record HD video?

What would be their slogan on any subsequent release ?

They will certainly release another DSLR with video, where the next one sits in the range I have no clue, but I don't expect them to stretch their release schedule out to years rather than months for want of a slogan.

How about the D100 - the world's first DSLR with a usable video quality ! ;P

that's just it, the next cam probably will have HD video capture, but probably equivalent to the d90...but who knows...guess we just have to take our chances.

Don't forget the specs for the Canon 5d say that it shoots HD video. Also, I think they're messing with us if they're only shipping the kits on sunday. Kinda like how you couldn't get a Wii for almost a year withone some crappy games.

Nikon usually releases the kit first then later the body only. I guess they want to sell as many higher priced kits to new custumers then sell to their old costumers.

Hunter are you not goin' this weekend?

I'm so wonderin' if there's gonna be a higher-end model out before Xmas.

No, I am going to go anyways and buy it. If a better model comes out later, I can worry about that then.

Marketing speculation: Nikon will let this camera ride out for a while as their only dslr that records video (to sell more), then early next year (after the great feedback from users) they will announce they are once again moving into video, this time as an HD camera manufacturer. (do any of you remember that nikon made broadcast lenses for eng cameras?)

I heard that the 18-105 is a good lens, I was just thinking about video use. I guess I could always use it for stills though.. or my wife could use it (the d90 is actually "for her" : )

I think the Canon 5d Mark II will shoot 1080p HD video. It will be a huge selling point for them since... well I've never seen anyone ask for a DP who is familiar with a Canon camera... ever. Generally the think Canon isn't as good as Panasonic or Sony because it doesn't shoot 24p, but who the hell has ever made a 35mm print from their camera for theatrical release? Very few...

On a personal note... I preordered the body only camera because I have much better lenses than the one offered with the kit. This is going to suck to have to wait a whole month to get my ****.

is that how you'll be able to buy it?

Kinda. We have a 10 month old girl and my wife keeps on bugging me to get her a flash camcorder to record home movies. I was just looking at some small hd camcorders when I saw the announcement. I sold our canon dslr, and promised to buy a new dslr and video camera combo (good timing eh?)

that way- even if the video quality isnt what I hoped for, I still took care of something she asked...

but if it is what I hoped for, I might buy a few more.

I have to say, even though I just bought a D300, I may also buy a D90 just for the factor of having two cameras in one. Like when you take the family camping? Who wants to drag a DSLR and the HVX to shoot home movies? I have done it, total PITA. Having the capacity to do both is pretty appealing to me for personal use.

Sandisk has announced new Extreme III SDHC cards with speeds up to 30MB/s with 4, 8 and 16 gigabyte sizes available. These new cards should offer longer sustained burst rates on the just-announced Nikon D90, according to internal Sandisk testing.

SanDisk Extreme III SDHC 30MB/s Edition cards should ship in September. SRP is $64.99 for the 4GB card, $109.99 for the 8GB card, and $179.99 for the 16GB card.

For serious. I wish I could drag my 200A + Ultimate everywhere. YEAH. Sort of impractical.

I still want to know if there's a larger one comin' out that might produce better video. However, I think I'm still gonna bounce to Best Buy on Sunday to grab a D90 regardless.
