The Emperors-new-hack

Hmmm so do you recommend getting this 5dtorgb transcoder? Would it be worthwhile even for windows users?

Thanks for doing that PaPa.

You're right ,the AF100 stuff looks pretty good now.

Was that the same exact settings that you used before?

On the blow ups I'm not seeing any crazy difference in the resolution like I saw before in other tests.

What are your thoughts?

Edit: I take that back, I can still see the difference when A and Bing them, and the I like the noise going on in the GH2 much more. But, it looks like the AF100's got more going on in the shadows.

Probably helped by the extended options for the picture.

Is there any way you can try the same test with the Nostalgic profile on GH2?

When you bring them into photoshop and match their black levels at the same IRE, there isn't anything more in the shadows.

I saw the Philip Bloom shootout and the AF100 came out less then the G2; in the scale of 1 to 10 about 4.

I think both cameras do a fine job. The Gh2 with the right hack is no doubt sharper than the af100.
The GH2 without the hack has higher resolution than the AF100/101/102. There is a decided lack of scientific rigour about enthusiasts extolling the advantages of the GH2 hack. High bit rate hack footage is produced & declared 'awesome' without any comparison to unhacked footage which could well be equally 'awesome'. Just because you are using the hack doesn't mean that what you are viewing is down to the hack. There is a quite unquestioning assumption that using the hack delivers enormous improvements in quality. A good case in point is various comments on Philip Bloom's Xmas camera shootout that was itself definitely lacking in scientific rigour. Swooning over how 'awesome' the resolution was because of using the Driftwood 176Mbps hack is deluded when the there is no motion or shadows where the claimed improvements occur.
