So I am plannig for a beach shoot where The camera will be several feet from the sea. Please give me some tips on how to properly maintain and keep safe the camera so it does not get damaged by the sea salt and sand. I have been told putting a bag over it is a good idea, but it seems clumsy and difficult to do.

ANyone have any experience with this type of scenario? Also any other tips you can offer would be greatly appreciated!

A bag is a great idea. You would be surprised at how easy it is for sand and salt spray to damage a camera. At a minimum, tape up ever orifice, seem and opening with some gaffers tape, but a bag with just the lens exposed wouldn't be a bad idea at all.

Well, to be ABSOLUTELY safe, you should have an underwater housing on ... so if it falls, or you get a sneak wave your camera's not toast. Otherwise, if you're willing to gamble with $3-4K worth of equipment, I'd personally do the following:

Tripod that can collapse to a very low position
Tether from you to the camera, so if the tripod falls, it'll only go so far before choking you
Some kind of plastic barrier around the camera (garbage bag even) ... keep in mind, you not only have the natural salt/dampness in the air, but also blowing sand to deal with, etc.

U could also put the camera in a big ziploc bag.

Or...if you have time..jus desgin a really cool underwater housing...make it from glass...put the handles on and everything...use it..then sell me one. :)

Plastic bags...

Plastic bags...

I may be showing my age here...
Years ago, I seem to remember just that... A ziplock bag, larger of course,
with an aperture type thing for the lens to go thru.
Granted, I was shooting with CP 16 back then...

Porta Brace makes a rain cover for the DVX. That will work for small spray and light to medium rain. If that doesn't work I have seen people make DIY raincovers by cutting a lens size hole in a garbagebag, then attach to hood with paper tape. Someone in here recommended using a screw-on UV filter to attach...should work too.
