The DVX Book/DVD - Worth it?

Hey guys. I've been away a while and my DVX has been horribly stagnant, but now that I've hooked up with a great group of filmmakers, I'm back in the saddle. Problem is, I never had THAT much experience with the camera. So I'm wondering if this $70 DVX book is truly worth it.

Just shooting a lot this week will put me back into the swing of the basic operation of the camera, but what I'm really looking for is how to improve the cinematic look of my shots and so things don't get out of hand if I'm filming under unfamiliar conditions. I'm leaning toward the book, but I just want to make sure I'm not spending money on something I could find just as well around here.

Thanks.

If you were highly experienced, then the book might not be all that useful, but for someone that describes themselves as not having "...THAT much experience with the camera" I would highly recommend getting it. After spending over $3000 on the camera why not invest a little more to help you get the most out of your purchase?

Hell yes it's worth it, but mine came with the camera. But I would definately buy if it had not. Many helpful hints in there, that the owner's manual doesnt tell you.Very easy to read, and about the only thing I ever read is the sports page in the mornings. However, you shouldnt rely on the book itself, you know the old saying...practice makes perfect.

I would say it is worth it... I bought it and read it cover to cover.

and I agree with Yellowdog

the best accessory you can buy for your camera.

the dvd is a bit of a waste though...

"use a green screen to achieve a shallow depth of field." - ha

I'm not sure if I understand all these mixed messages. Are you saying I should...buy it?

Thanks, guys. I know where my next paycheck is going. Contact lenses will have to wait.
And holy ****, did it actually say to use green screen for shallow DOF?

The thing I love most about the DVD is the short segment with the split screen between DVX footage and 16mm. It's pretty cool.

As a new DVX user, I would be lost if not for Barry's book. I am constantly referring to it. This is a must have item for your camera. There is a reason that Panasonic is packaging the book with the cam.

The manual will tell you where all the controls are. Barry's book will tell you what all the controls do.

Hmm I have Barrys book almost totally memorised now... sits in my backpack.. whenever I have a spare minute commuting or whatever... out it comes.

Certainly worth having but the more I read it, the more I feel Panasonic should have provided it in the first place.

I ordered min yesterday. I think I can save hours because I don't need to invent the wheel again
