The dreaded "!" inside a stop sign icon

This must have been addressed before, but I'm not sure what to search for to find it, so I'm asking afresh. . .

I'm trying to import and convert to Quicktime P2 MXF footage with FCP, but all I get is a "!" inside an orange stop sign om two of the clips. I can scroll through the flagged footage and see that it isn't damaged in any way that I can tell, but I can't import/convert any of it. What to do?

Another fix has been to go into the log and transfer window, click the little button with the gear or cog on it, then click preferences. Put a check in the "Remove advanced pulldown" box. That fixes it for some people.

I had this problem just last night, but I already had a check in the "Remove advanced pulldown" box. So I unchecked it and it then worked fine.

I've also found that I had the issue when the backed up P2 Media and the Final Cut Capture Scratch Drive were the same disk.

By moving the backed up P2 media to another drive, it fixed it. This was however an inconsistent fix.

Hope this helped some :)

THanks! I also managed to solve it by importing MXF with P2CMS and converting with P2 Log (demo). It makes for unspanned files in separate folders, unfortunately, but it worked.

Clearly this works because the footage is not damaged in any severe kind of way. I wonder why FCP can't fix this issue?

So do I, mpalmer... So Do I.

Until then, recognize that the FCP import window just doesn't work sometimes. You can get around it by either using P2 Log (as you found out) or by using Raylight; both of those have frequently saved people when FCP's sometimes-unreliable import window just flakes.
