As far as human names, I've got a neighbor who's got a Pug named Joe. Actually pretty cute ... Joe works for a dog's name ... David, Micahel, etc. would not. Just something wrong about that.

Fille (a spice to thicken gumbo, usually made from sassafrass)

Sassafrass (what is used to make Fille) - Call her Sassy for short

Okra (another thickener for gumbo)

Boudan (a sausage that often goes into gumbo)

Etouffee - call her Fay

Muffalotta (a sandwich with lots of olives) - call her Lotta or Lottie

or maybe Vieux Carre

or one of the Vieux Carre streets like:
