But should there be a gap?

From a commercial/industry perspective - there should be a diagonal line graph of diminishing returns. But, with the continuous technological advancement, each point is driven downward after a certain time frame.

I am going to borrow a thought from Eric Coughlin ... but in a different way. On the Canon thread he recently said something like this, "If Varicam LT is sort of like an Amira and C200 is sort of like an LT and XT-3 is sort of like a C200, then XT-3 is sort of like an Amira. Except it's not". Which is correct. On the other hand, if S1 V-Log is pretty much as good as the EVA1's V-log and EVA1 is on the Netflix approved list, then S1 is a good enough camera even if it's not an Amira.

Thanks!

I guess, i will leave it there. Cameras are still getting better, but maybe not as fast as i’d like, as the lower tier has to wait for the higher tier, even if it is technically and monetarily possible.

Of course i always hope the high end will have special unobtanium color filters or tweaked out of the box color science that the lower end won’t, but i don’t think the differences should be so stark.

This morning Sigma has announced that they're getting into the "this camera is a box" game. Cinema DNG signal out but the price isn't announced. Further democratization.

Yeah, I think I'm going to pull out my pocket cine camera and start shooting Godfather IV...

CFA's are made from Chromium film (OK, I looked it up).

As to price differences, let's assume three basic criteria - quality control/durability, performance and workflow. The QC is within the accepted norm by the major manufacturers, albeit a problem for the independents. The performances are getting close, so all you have left is the workflow. And, if you consider the latest mirrorless to be close to the camera-in-the-box type, then the rest is up to the rig creator. And then your Z Cam E2 can be as impressive as your ARRI Mini LF.

To work with.

Make sure you have a screenplay first.

Wait, what? D'oh, I thought all I needed was the latest cool camera. Back to the drawing board. It reminds me of a series of jobs posted on one of the crew sites. A grandfather is funding his grandson's first feature film. They don't have a script yet, but he is hiring a producer, director, cinematographer now.

Oof!

What a maroon. Everyone knows the first person you hire is a caterer.

Each time I think I am out, they pull me back in.

Jack Daniel Stanley directed a film I produced on a GH1, it was the short film that opened the red-carpet opening night at Slamdance that year.
Barry- it seems Jack's no longer around the forum- did he leave filmmaking also?

James the searchmeister! Note to all- can't come up with that thread/post you're dying to find?
Give James a call- reasonable rates!!! :)

From time to time I've also wondered what Jack (and other early DVXUSER Fest all-stars) are up to these days.... It's good to see that Macgregor is still putting out stuff and stopping by the forums occasionally.
