"The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer," HVX200/FCP6

And now it continues to say "1394 device disconnect," I'm set to EXT and 1394device in PC mode.

The Firewire cable and port work fine, I use then all the time to import with my DVX.

Hehe- pretend like we can't see your computer from here. Back up and describe the whole situation please.

Sorry for being short, at the time every other word from me was one that would be edited into a series of stars, and a few that might get me banned.

Trying to do the normal import process with an HVX200 into my Macbook (10.5.8) and FCP (6.0.4). Firewire into mini-DV from the camera. Set 1394 device to EXT, and go to the 1394 screen. Sometimes, it doesn't ever "connect," it remains at "disconnect." A few times, it displayed "connect," but never showed up on my computer as a drive. It gave me the error message, "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." At one point it didn't, and log and transfer showed two "no name" folders, which it tried to display the content for, and those two "no name" folders (presumably one for each P2 card) showed on my desktop, with their content. The attempt to load the clips in Log and Transfer never happened; the spinning icon continually spinned, then Finder froze and I had to restart. Attempting to force quit and relaunch Finder didn't work. Point being, as simple as every video to upload content from P2 in FCP6, or every forum discussion I've read about similar problems makes it seem, it won't work. I had similar issues with another HVX200, but it had other problems and I ended up returning it and purchasing another, this one, from a forumite. The firewire port and cable work, because I have used my DVX100A for other videos while trying to figure this one out. So, it must be something with the system, but I dunno what.

NEVER to use USB? Man, I ONLY use USB. Because my drives are Firewire, and copying USB to Firewire with the laptop as the middleman is a lot faster than FW to FW...as there is only one firewire bus on the Mac. Use USB. Also try other firewire cables. perhaps a different port on your computer (if you have one)

No, you need a mini USB to USB cable.

Sometimes described as a USB 2.0 A to Mini-B Cable.

This are available at most drug stores.
