Hey guys,

This is a short film we shot a few months back and I'm in the final stages of finishing it up.

There is a couple of Boards of Canada tracks right now, but that is only to convey mood as example for the guy creating the music tracks... so that won't be in there in the end.

Anyways, let me know what you think... if you have any advice on little things to make it work better.

It's a lo-res file... so it should be a quick watch.

Thanks!

Hey guys, thanks for the replies.

Cason we just used the stock HVX... I had previously owned a Brevis but had sold it before this shoot. I tried to rent one but just couldn't make it happen. In the end, I'm kind of glad we just shot it straight, though.

Franky, I did all my color correcting and then grading in FCP.

Yeah....OK....what can I say....that was simply incredible!

I loved the story. What was the inspiration? Was it an original idea?

The sound design was very VERY well done. Some of the best work I have heard in a long time.

I very much liked the editing. You have a very stylized approach without coming across as "kitchy." I liked the freeze frames too. Especially the one in the middle of the film. Cool beans through and through.

The visuals were extremely compelling. To sound like a film snob...you used Mise-en-scène like no one I have seen on this site in a long time. I really, REALLY liked this one.

Was it simple...YES. But that was the shear beauty of the film. The costumes were low budget to be sure. However, they did not distract from the overall story. Let me say that again...STORY!!!

Ok, for everyone wanting to become the next "IT" Director, pay close attention to this film. No guns, no suicide, no F-bombs, no strippers, no car explosions, no bad acting, no David Caruso, no sophomoric slang, no black SUV's, no pimps, no bad tattoos, no gold chains, no muzzle blasts, no bad dialogue, no drug overdoses, and no bathroom mirrors!! Holy cow...this is a DVXUSER first :)

Seriously though, it is possible to tell a simple and compelling story without all of that "overused" crap. This film was a case in point.

Great job!! Hope to see more of your work. Maybe a feature based on the idea??

Wow, Jeffrey. Thank you so much! Those were such kind words... I'm glad you liked it.
It was an original idea. The original idea was a bit bigger, but when editing it, I realized it just wasn't focused enough as a compelling short... so I ended up cutting half the footage we shot. I indeed have thought about fleshing it out a bit more into a feature one of these days.

I agree, the sound design is great. The sound editor and I sat down together and came up with an emotional subtext and he rolled with it... and I think nailed it.

I had a great crew and a great DP who were eager to help, so they deserve tons of credit for the effort they put in.

Again, thanks so much for taking the time to watch it and for the nice remarks... I'm very honored!

Yeah....thanks. I meant every word. Your film was great!

So, what are you going to do with it? Any festival plans? Are you a student? If so, you might want to think about entering it into some student specific contest/festivals. Do you have a high-res version somewhere?

Was the lead actor a professional? She did a great job. Just curious as to her background and what else she may have been in.

Do you have any other projects are available for viewing?

Great job and keep up the good work.

I must admit this is not false. : )

Interesting short, I liked it. The lead actor was very good. Good luck if you submit to any festival.

Oh yeah....what is that room in the last scene? It was very unique.

Ok, you have probably heard enough of me...I will leave you alone now.

JEFF

Thank you Shadow, I'm glad you liked it. I hope others feel the same when i start sending it out to festivals... I guess we'll see.

Jeff, no worries at all! I'm very happy you liked it. That last room is actually a foyer at my school. I am a student (older student... it took me awhile to go back to school) graduating this semester in Communications/Film Production.

I do hope to send it to some student fests as well as some other ones... I'm not exactly sure which ones would be more interested in this type of thing, so I'll have to do some research.

The main actress is a professional here in Kansas City. She did a great job and was super easy to work with... she really nailed takes... I don't think I ever needed to get more than 4 or 5 takes for a shot with her.

I have this if you'd like to watch it... I'm not going to say it's not problematic still... but I like it and I'll be adding to it/doing some cleaning up on it this summer.

I made this when I first started learning After Effects at the beginning of my Comm. degree. The animation is stiff because this was my first venture into AE so didn't know anything about smoothing bezier curves. It's short, and all the "footage" isn't there yet, but it's here if you want to watch it:

Thanks again for the interest!
