The Dark Knight

I never said Oldman did a bad job. Actually, he fit his role so well that his performance doesn't bring any attention to it, which is a very good thing. But even with his performance, some of it seemed a bit forced.

I don't know why, but the performances in Batman Begins were much more natural than in TDK. I'm not sure if it was the directing or not.

Gary Oldman would possibly make my top 10 list, actually. I thought he did a really good job in "The Professional" (Leon).

I know, that's why I said this...

I know you didn't single them out, just basing this on your general comment.

Mike

Which was...
TDK was pretty flat, performance-wise, which is why I didn't care for it. It was also poorly cast and that's probably why there wasn't good chemistry between Eckhart and Gyllenhaal. Heath Ledger did a decent job, but the other performances just weren't there...

I thought Oldman was perfect for Gordon.

No problem though, we just disagree.

Cheers,

Mike

I think Gordon was more of a supporting role. That's why I didn't include him in the list of actors. I guess my main issues were with Eckhart and Gyllenhaal.

Totally agree with Gyllenhaal. Liked Eckhart though.

She was pretty plain and almost bad in spots. Especially her opening line at the trial. Yikes!

And she might have been the problem. Eckhart might have gave a better performance than it seemed, but she just sucked all the life out of it.

What was really driving me insane is when she would enunciate the last letter of each word. For example, if her line was, "Tell you what.", she would say "Tell you wha-T", stressing the T. I hate it when actors do that. That's part of the reason I wanted to leave the movie. I couldn't deal with that. I was sitting there pulling out my hair.

I'd have to watch it again to see how Eckhart did. Maybe I'll catch it on DVD when it comes out.

EDIT: I really liked his two face performance. I could see he had the intensity of the character down well.

I didn't care too much for Franco in Spiderman, but he was really pretty good in Fly Boys. Haven't seen him in anything else that comes to mind.

Finally, I don't have to feel stupid for not liking/getting this movie. Uber-cool actor Robert Downey Jr.'s feelings on The Dark Knight: "My whole thing is that I saw 'The Dark Knight'. I feel like I'm dumb because I don't get how many things that are so smart. It's like a Ferrari engine of storytelling and script writing and I'm like, 'That's not my idea of what I want to see in a movie.' I loved 'The Prestige' but didn't understand 'The Dark Knight'. Didn't get it, still can't tell you what happened in the movie, what happened to the character and in the end they need him to be a bad guy. I'm like, 'I get it. This is so high brow and so f–king smart, I clearly need a college education to understand this movie.' You know what? F-ck DC comics. That's all I have to say and that's where I'm really coming from."

Agree with him about The Prestige too. Great movie.

LOL! I read about that comment in the news, hilarious! I love that guy.

Well - different strokes I suppose.
I'm kind of surprised to hear so much disdain for Maggie Gylenhaal.
Personally I think she's gorgeous, on top of being a very talented actress.

But - to each his own.

This thread is very long and I'm very late to the discussion and only on page 29 or so, but Maggie has played some amazing roles. She's not super starlet T&A that makes your jaw drop hot, but if anything it lends to Bruce Wayne/Batman's true character that he's in love with an average looking woman. I get the hate, though on a "guy" level. Joe Sixpack wants scorching hot, blow your brains out, drive off a cliff to "have" her hot, and MG isn't that. They feel cheated. Whatever dudes... Bruce Wayne has theoretically blown his wad enough times with every type of exotic superbabe that it only makes sense he'd want this one. Sorry to belabor the point, I've just heard "aw she's so uuugly" a lot and it makes me cringe for the human race a little because she's not. She's normal and actually probably a good deal hotter than most of the dudes complaining will ever get without paying for it.

I thought the movie was decent, but far from mind blowing. Harvey Dent's transformation struck me as a bit of a buzz kill as scripted. I just didn't buy into it... didn't care. The noble sacrifice of Batman was righteous, but I just couldn't feel anything even resembling any humanity especially with the character's gravelly annoying voice. I think CB is an outstanding actor, but the morality play was just uninspiring. From the overall tone of the movie the human race just didn't seem all that worthy of caring about.

Definitely a cool movie to see on the big screen, but an 8 at best.

Ledger rocked the Joker role, no doubt.

HOT Hot hot

She's the kind of girl that is not beautiful, but sexy in a "foxy' way. In other words, she looks like the kind of girl that knows what she wants, and is not ashamed of it...

Have any of you guys seen Secretary??? You can't watch that and say Maggie Gyllenhaal isn't hot. Granted, she's actually made up to be kind of homely, but once you see more than just her face in that movie (as in, everything) you'll be thinking otherwise. Oh yeah, and she's a talented actress too. I always find talent sexy too. I know quite a few women who find Woody Allen and Steve Buscemi sexy. I'd like to think it has something to do with their talents.
