The Dark Knight

Well, I thought you were referring to Legends of the Dark Knight. But yeah, The Dark Knight Returns, too.

His point was not what Batman did as much as it didn't feel like Batman's world -- which was referred to by others in posts above.

I was referring to the Punisher comment your friend made.
why was the Punisher wearing a bat suit?"
Batman became much nastier as the Dark Knight. The Punisher was of course a bad ass himself.

As for the world, I find it extremely similar to that of the world in Begins. I have no problem with it.

Mike

Evidently, Gotham - L train - Wayne Manor - Bat cave - Narrows - Arkham = Chicago

There's obvious reasons all of those elements are missing, and the movie does make an interesting evolution, now focusing on a "different class of criminal" that has no problem operating in the daytime. So we move out of the night, up from the streets and sewers and into the brightly lit offices of the city officials and businessmen and lawyers. Pretty cool, we all get that and like it for the most part.

But...it's pretty much like the art dept got a freebie on the design of the city. They didn't bother to throw in a single element to make Chicago even the least bit Gotham-y. That I can remember anyway.

I will say again, do you guys want a Batman movie with him running around in jeans? I mean, that's ridiculous. The Dark Knight is as "realistic" as a movie with a character running around in a cape is going to get. Arguing that is just kinda silly. He's a guy running around in a cape, let it go already. It's still a comic book movie, just played as serious as it can be. I totally think it works as entertainment and a social commentary.

There's some interesting blurbs on the Batman/George Dubya stuff at the Filmmakers Magazine blog:

Yes. And what he was referring to was that it didn't feel like a Batman movie.

Odd, I thought he was directly comparing the Punisher to Batman. I guess the quote wasn't too clear. Maybe had I been part of the actual conversation... :)

Yes, but it was in no way a realistic world in TDKR.
We obviously disagree.

Cheers,

Mike

I do think one thing: As i love nolan work and realism is the best thing. When something a little too fantasy happens in the real world, it becomes more obvious and shoots out at you as unreal. But hey I don't complain but others had.

Also lets the punisher out of this. it's franchise wishes it was this.

I'm biased to anything Nolan and Bale do, but I did like Burton's version.

The new Punisher looks pretty alright, if a bit colorful for my taste. Ray Stevenson was awesome on Rome, both acting and action-wise.

Where's that  smiley? :)
