The Dark Knight

Yeah, Bale's "scary" voice is silly and gets on my nerves in both movies. And yeah, the cell phone sonar machine was pretty unnecessary. I rolled my eyes when it was explained. But I so did not care because this movie was, overall, flippin' incredible.

I say this is the best superhero movie we've seen yet. In fact its themes and the way they are woven into the plot elevate it way beyond a superhero movie. A lot of really good stuff here. I want to see it again.

Interestingly, maybe inevitably, Batman is way upstaged in this installment. After awhile I was watching it more for enjoyment of the ancillary characters - obviously Joker (wow) and Dent stole the show but Gordon, Alfred, and Lucius's parts were much expanded and pretty darn riveting this time around.

This is the kind of movie experience I've been waiting for all year. :)

I know what you mean. After a while, I was more interested in what the Joker was up to, rather than Batman. Not that I lost interest, not at all, and I cared about the hero. But Ledger's performance was so interesting and addictive. His scenes were so f*cked-up. I love it. I could watch him play the Joker forever. I keep finding myself trying to imitate his voice. One of my favorite Joker lines: "I'm like a dog chasing a car. I wouldn't know what to do with it if I actually caught it."

Yeah but put yourself in that situation. If you lived in Gotham, and this crazy Joker character was running around killing people, and he said, "The batman tells us who he is or I keep killing," would you really put Batman in jail (whose only mistake has been killing a few people accidentally) in favor of hoping a crazy lunatic psycho killer keeps his word?
Of course you would. Batman has broken countless laws that have nothing to do with The Joker.

Nobody should be above the law and he is. Only because nobody knows who he is. Why don't you go nab a few criminals, cause a lot of damage, use excessive force and then see what happens if you do this without a using a secret identity.

The cellphone message was lame!!!! I mean, this is supposed to be the DARK KNIGHT.
He's supposed to be a hero who's a little bit rougher and plays by his own rules, but then it seems that cellphone tapping is just going too far. It was such obvious political garbage, and I can't see what their point actualy was. They seemed to want to get across the point that batman thought it was wrong and then at the same time it's a needed evil. It was so distracting and ridiculous.

Yeah, and the idea that the cell-phone machine was too much for Lucius's conscience to bear, let alone reason enough to walk out on his buddy Bruce??...I mean, come on. All the crazy gadgets he's cooked up for him, and that's where he draws the line??? At least have him balk at something that has a little gravitas. Not a preposterous Matrix-y device. But whatever. A relatively minor quibble.

I cant read 23 pages, but a couple things:

Yeah, Bale's "scary" voice is silly and gets on my nerves in both movies.

It's horrible. These last two movies are awesome, the best batman character yet, but Bale is just so bad as Batman. He does the brooding/playboy B.Wayne well, but his Batman is just horrible.

Ditto about Lucious and the cell phone moral issue.

Great movie though.

I dont know if it was touched on in the 23 pages, but this was the first Batman that I actually felt and believed that they were in an actual city. All the other movies, including BMBegins just felt like 3 city blocks on a soundstage to me. This one had scale. And the addition of expanding to the world was awesome.

I think that we're forgetting that bale has the two characters wayne and batman. So he's in it more than everyone else. It just seems like we're seeing more wayne than batman this time around.

Saw it last night. Awesome film. Don't have time to go into too much right this second, but the only thing that bothered me a bit was the editing. Too me, it felt like they took a 3-1/2 hour movie and cut it down. A lot of the scenes kind of ended abruptly for me. I hope we get a long-ass director's cut when the DVD comes out.

I'm totally with you billy!

Yeah thus why this movie isnt so much about batman. to put batman in the title would lead you think its a batman film but to be called the dark knight. there's layers to the title.

nothing was wrong about this movie.. a perfect movie, IMO

There most certainly was:

Possibly the most unattractive person ever, AND she acted horribly.

Maybe not the most unattractive person ever. I've seen worse.

I just don't get why a billionaire would go for a woman like her. Oh well.

I loved the film.

A breathtaking film. Has a moral complexity that is unprecedented for a Superhero film. Takes a while to get where it's going and put the pieces in place, but once it does it's thrilling to watch. It's rare to watch a film and not know where it's headed, and The Dark Knight reaches that point about mid-way through, unlike Iron Man, which had a third act that was predictable and uninspired. And enough has already been said about Ledger. He's almost too good, disappearing into the character so completely he makes it look easy. I love Nolan's approach to the Batman films because he takes nothing for granted and questions everything about the characters and mythos. Is the film absolutely perfect? No. But I'm not much for nitpicking when a film does so much right.

Dude, you're overstating your case a bit. She's not the hottest woman on the planet but she's not ugly. I don't need every woman in a movie to look like Charlize Theron. I will say she has one of those faces that looks odd when filmed from the wrong angle. Anyway, she didn't give the greatest performance ever but she fulfilled her role in the film fine.
