Okay, so I'll be honest…the horror genre is probably my favorite of them all. In fact, the very first movie I actually remember seeing was "Jaws." We saw it at the drive-in (the old Airline Road Drive In, if I remember correctly). And I was five years old. When Betamax first came out, two of the first movies my parents bought were "Alien" and "The Fog." And back in the early days of HBO, it seemed like they played "Phantasm" every Friday night.
So you could say horror is just in my blood (pun fully intended).
With HorrorFest II launching today, I thought I might use this thread to provide a little piece of horror inspiration each day. It might be an interview with a great horror director, a tutorial on horror movie lighting, or something else that's just good and scary.
I'm calling it "The Daily Dread," and let's get it started in style.
Tomorrow is the birthday of one of horror's greatest directors, Wes Craven. He's given us absolutely shocking explorations into terror ("Last House on the Left"), and chilling characters like Pluto from "The Hills Have Eyes" and Freddy Krueger from "A Nightmare On Elm Street." And while his movies haven't always been great ("My Soul To Take," anyone?), they almost always manage to be both scary and smart.
So let's celebrate his birthday a day early by watching a handful of interviews with a master of the horror genre, Wes Craven…
