The Cost Cover b.jpg
Long time reader first time poster.

The Cost is technically a short. Officially over 24 minutes in length. Shot in two and a half days with the red one camera. It was a crazy experience doing so much in so little time. Those who have time please watch and critique.

Sorry for the low quality. In the future I will try to have something of higher quality available. Also I will post pics of the shoot in the near future.

I liked it, i think it ran perhaps a little long, but overall a decent short. Some nice shots.

The sound, was a little weird, like maybe you had no room tone layered over it? It sounded like it was done adr in a studio or something, almost to clean with a little echo. Not a huge deal but something to look out for next time.

I think maybe the grading wasnt my fav, but not horrid. I thought the acting from the father could have been a little more panicked, but thats just my note.

I think a tighter edit could definetly bring this down to 15-20 mins.

Good job though.

Thanks for the kind comment. This is my first short film and the sound was a disaster from the beginning. The biggest lesson I learned was to spend the money and hire a good sound man (or woman). I ADR the whole movie. It was pain beyond reason and still not quite what I want. I never could get the mix quite right. The actor playing the father is a friend of mine who was helping me out on sound. The actor who was suppose to play the father didn't call or show so I asked him to step in. All in all he did good job. I was pleasantly surprised.

it's always funny that sound is the (let's face it as it is) most less appreciated thing...But the most important one.

It's also because when you SEE someone or something you also HEAR it and you expect to hear it... You'te not asking yourself "hé...I can hear that guy very well, even with 254045453430dB of music around us".

Well my next project (coming up in Feb or March) I am definitely hiring someone to do the sound. So if anybody knows of a good sound person in the NJ area, send me a message. Thanks.
