"The Cinema Camcorder"

I have a client with a bunch of these and I just had to laugh at the write-up. It doesn't really have shallow Dof and the lens is slow- the iris starts to ramp almost immediately. It does produce a decent image and has features that are built-in that more expensive cameras do not, but I would not call it a "cinema camcorder".

This assessment in a September, 2018 article comparing camcorders. Curiously, the EVA-1 isn't in the list, but the DVX is.

EVA-1 isn’t a camcorder. I’m guessing you mean the DVX200; DVX200 is a camcorder. So EVA-1 would not be on a list comparing camcorders. DVX200 should be, and is in this article.

Calling it a cinema camcorder isn’t far-fetched. I’ve been calling it that in not so many words since I bought it 2 years ago. It has Vlog-L. Of course they want you to use it as a cinema camera. It shines at ISO500 at f/2.8 at its widest, akin to a 28mm lens in Super 35. That’s my favorite focal length in Super 35. I’ve shot some lovely creative content with DVX200 up until I got my FS7M2. Under the right lighting conditions and camera settings, even DVX200’s 8 bit 4:2:0 can look pretty fabulous...just like in 2010 when I shot whole movies with a Canon T2i. Cameras are just tools. Become an expert with your tool and you can push it till it can’t anymore. When your ability surpasses the capability of the tool, it’s time to get a better tool. My DVX200 sees a ton of corporate work, but I no longer require it’s Vlog-L feature, but for a while it was what I used...and I shot lots of creative content with it. DVX200 a cinema camcorder? Absolutely.

Thanks, Jason. I stand corrected. I only wish the DVX200 worked in lower light. Perhaps the GY-HC500 will? I hope Panasonic will return to camcorders in that performance / cost range that Sony and JVC are addressing.
