"The Chromaddiction"

Please check this out. I posted the script a few months back under the working title "Kelvin". It has been finished, and is here for your comments/reviews. Hope this came out as some expected or can remember. This was all shot w/ a dvx. The reason some of it goes from barred widescreen - actual widescreen is cos I capture the alleyway stuff to tape, and the next day my heads wouldn't work. So, i had to direct capture through Gcam (little program for firewire capture straight to HD) when I set the pixel dimensions the first time i used it, i expected it to save it. (it didnt) so you might notice it jumping to 640x480 instead of 720x480. This is solved when viewed on a 4:3 tv, and is not noticeable on atelevision, but not as the mp4 w/ the player frame around it. (sorry)

So here's the link. Right Click... Save to ur Computer.

Running Time is around 6 mins. 30 secs.

there also is a little bit of artifacting due to compression reasons. (how does everyone else usually compress their files for web w/out getting artifacts?)

Hey, nice job. I really liked this one. It had a nice cinematic feel to me. The encoding for the web file sucked, sorry to say so it was hard to see some of it because the frame was so small but I really liked the idea.

I'm drawn to films where I feel that the camera is alive and it was very much alive in this piece. Nice, creative cinematography.

Good job, keep it up and put up a larger version if you can.

Not bad, it had more feeling and general atmosphere than alot of stuff I see. I think that it could have benefited had the lighting not been so flat. I'm a fan of the higher contrast lighting (think Michael Bay :))

Nice Job I like this piece very much. There are many nice things about it so I'll just mention the few suggestions I have.

1-Because the final is done in what looks to be a 2.35:1 aspect ratio i would just tweak a few shots so there's more of the important content on the screen. Such as when he's fiddling around with his hands etc.

2-I would have thought with the nice dolly type shots in the room that you would have done the same in the alleyway to avoid the handheld look.

3-Not that I have any experience with squibs but it would have given your peice even more production value if you used one on the last scene against the canvas or something.

Again, there are many things about this piece i liked very much.

Thanks for sharing,

thanks for the feedback. The alleyway shots i was going to use a dolly for, but my cam broke before we were about to get them, and i freaked out and didnt have another 24/p cam. That shot was all done w/ the "$14 Steadicam" slightly modified. I wanted to show my skills with it. It doesn't look "that" handheld i dont think. Everyones comments were on those shots, in/out of the alleyway. It's no glidecam pro, but, this was my FIRST film i've ever made... so, please give me some credit.

the apartment was all decorated by myself and another friend, we dressed the whole set. Even hid some inside stuff in the movie w/ the address on the door. I dunno, i plan on making some stuff in the recent future. This was also a school project, got lots of screenings before I came to this, and had to sacrifice some "creative" decisions i had earlier due to having to please a certain person (cough cough... professor) anywho... I'm happy w/ it for being my first.

Much better the my first project. I wasn't trying to hack you, just thought you'd like some feedback other than "great job".

I look forward to seeing more of your stuff.

I really liked this. Not easy to pull off a piece like this. It had depth to it. It would be interesting to see your directors cut with the creative decisions you excised. Hook it up.

Great work! My favorite visuals we're honestly the alley tracking shots. But it was realllllly hard to have any kind of critique with such a tiny viewing space. Would like to see a bigger version.

Bigger Version

Bigger Version

I'd put up a bigger version if someone could tell me the best way to compress it. I use Compressor (bundles w/ FCP), but am having problems getting good results. What setttings does everyone else use.

I can get kinda big in size, But under 50mb. I have 50 gigs of bandwidth transfer from my host per month... so, i'm not too worried about the smallest file size.
