SHORT: The Chateau - Short Film (Chiller)

Hi David,

I thought I'd offer my honest opinion on your short film...

It didn't really work for me. I think for the story you're trying to tell, the duration is far too long. There are way too many unnecessary tracking shots and too much camera movement in general, it's very distracting. You would have been much better off using fewer shots and a lot less camera movement. I think there's a saying or consensus that cinematography that draws attention towards itself is not good as it removes your audience from your story. I really liked the shot of the glass and the rings when the woman is in bed. More shot's like that would have been better.

Some of your shots look too underexposed and I felt that the lighting of the woman in the bath and the scene towards the end with the table looks flat and doesn't convey the mood of the story your trying to tell.

Sorry if this sounds overly harsh and negative, I'm just being honest. Good effort though.

Maybe I missed something, but I thought her reaction to hearing the baby giggling and other voices in the house was totally unrealistic. It was an instant brush-off. Given the remoteness of the location nobody would react that way. Again, maybe I missed something.
