The Centre of Gravity

I though I'd save myself a little time and see if anybody has measured to see where the HVX's centreof gravity is. I don't believe it is exactly on the tripod screw mount. I've tried building a homemade stadicam from a tripod post and a 5lb dumbbell and after very little work it works very well. Just a little side to side shake. But knowing the centre of gravity would help.

Get something that is smooth and round, wooden dowel, metal rod or even a pencil. Place that on a smooth surface, counter top, table. Balance the camera on the round object and mark the camera where the round thing lands with the camera in balance. Be sure you have everything mounted on the camera before the test. This can determine the balance point front to back and side to side.

I use a monopod for steadicam-like moves. I bought a gimbal style head for it that provides a comfortable handle while the gimbal provides balance adjustment for which ever camera I use.

Thanks for the tips.
What do you mean by 'gimble style head".
Do you attach weights to the bottom of your monopod??
