The Business About DVD RAM Disks

I was reading a video editor's magazine this week and they had a blurb about shelf life of various media. According to the aritcle, DVD-R's have a recorded shelf life of 15-30 years, while DVD-RAM's are about 100. I did a quick web check and they are quite a bit more expensive that DVDR's, too. I know it all depends on the climate the disc is stored in and how it is handled. However, DVD-RAMS seem a more stable way to keep archives. Any thoughts on thier use and viability? Are they compatible with most DVD players?

Not compatible at all with most dvd players. They have a shell around the disk so no UV light can get to them, so they last longer. Something that came out around the time of the first dvd-r s. Just a remnant of the dvd recordable format wars. They are dying a slow death now.
