Hi, what would be, in a low light area, the best tricks to improve the luminosity without having to resort to spot lights (especially if you don't have any and you're stuck with using the embiant light if there's any) ?

I know that if you combine a very good speed booster and a very good lens (zoom or prime), normally it helps

But what else ?

Also, what lenses (prime & zoom) and speed boster would you take in that kind of situation ?

Thanks to answer

Lens choice would depend greatly on the kind of shot you're after.

Based on what you're trying to accomplish, you'd want it to be a fast lens, but other than that, the focal length depends upon your aesthetics.

I have both the Speed Booster, and very good fast lenses. And my question to you is... Why do you feel you can't add light to your shots, which would be less expensive than adding the above?

It's mostly to be able to film weddings receptions and documentaries. As you probably know, in both cases, setting up lights can be a nightmate, especially with a professional lights kit. Kids, clumsy people, electric sources missing or lacking the stenght needed to keep the lamps working... Are just among some of the hazards always encountered during filming in both cases. Also, in some occationns, I can't really bring lights at all because I don't have the time to set them up. That's why I'm asking what are the best alternatives with this camera. What dosn't help also is that I don't have spotlights, anyway, so...

Any other suggestions ?

Don't forget higher ISO, if you can live with the noise. Also to me, a collapsible silver reflector can be miraculous more often than not. It's light enough to carry all day and small enough to fit in your bag. If you gotta have more light and you've got no power, no time, and no resources, you could do worse.

Have you thought about adding a few LED lights to your kit?

Yes I did, at some point. But the light was more incomodating as I had always to adjust it depending of my moves, or the moves of the people I was filming. It's a Nanguang 5400K LED video light lamp. It was more or less ok, but could have been better. Also, people are always staring at you with your big light, especially when you get closer.

For standart stand lights, I can't really put them anywhere strategic whitout them been in anybody's way, infortunately or without been too distracting, even during the ceremony.

True, but in those shootings, I'm always alone, so I can't manipulate the reflector while moving the camera, even in the church, thought for that latter case, a good stand might help, but difficult not to place it in anybody's way without been too distracting.

Changing shutter speed also helps.

I tryed that too, but unfortunately it afected too much the spead of the image, for some reasons. I may be the malfuntion of this thought.

So, any suggestions on how I might improve this kind of situations while using this camera ?

To mitigate the noisy effects of the higher ISOs, you can bump both detail settings down to about -4, set the gamma to B. Press, and the Matrix to Norm2. Also try setting the DRS to 1 (no higher). I've shot at 1600 ISO using a candle for a light source with these settings with acceptable results. The image will be contrasty, but usable. :-)

Happy Shooting!
