okay okay,

there has been much talk of this or that crane, or which jib is the best.

so lets get it down to the numbers.

please vote on which crane/jib YOU think is the OVERALL BEST.

I have kept all the choices under the $2000 range (so try not to use cost as a determining factor).

Lets settle this once and for all!

thanks for your input!

C'mon people vote. I am anxiously waiting to hear....although after MUCH research, I am definitely going with a Kessler....

I have a CobraCrane II, but haven't tried the others.

Overall I'm pleased with the CobraCrane. It's heavy and a pain to transport, but works well.

Disregard cost?

that's like saying which car is better:
1. Hugo
2. Honda
3. Mercedes
4. Ferrari

I think you get what you pay for

if your going for the kessler, why didn't you vote for it then. I'm still a cobra crane man.

Well, the reason I didn't vote for it is because I don't have it yet. I should say based on all of my reading and research and my gut feeling, I think that Kessler is the best option for me. I look forward to getting one underneath my Christmas Tree. Well, I don't know if I am getting one...but God knows I've given many many many hints.

I would have to agree with Icarus2005.

You get what you pay for!! But I've heard really good things about the ez fx jib!!!

I'm pretty turned on by the Kessler, but after looking at it, it seems the only option to use it on your tripod is to attach it directly onto the head. From everything I've heard/read, it's not good to put so much weight onto a fluid head (25-30+ lbs after crane/jib, counter balance weights, camera, etc.).

I think Cobra Crane connect direct to the head as well, right?

Yes I believe you tend to get what you pay for, but I've always been the "best bang for the buck" kinda guy. So I don't care if I have the BEST, as long as I have the best value/results for the money.

I voted for the EZ FX Jib.

To be honest, I am not as familiar with the other cranes. Just research I did online before I bought the EZ FX Jib.

I can tell you, I am very happy with the jib and the people at EZ FX were fantastic. They were extremely helpful. I also purchased the optional EZ FX handle and then decided I didn't really need it. I returned it for a full refund and they were great.

That being said, I'm sure the other cranes are excellent too. Still, get a crane, they are awesome!

I love my Cobra II. I figured out after about 10 mins and I've never touched a crane before. Very smooth and easy. Tilt function is simple, but works well.

Just don't use it with the Provista tripod....shredded the hell out of mine.

Also, it's cumbersome to move, but worth the trouble. Very stable

J.

ya forgot the skycrane :)

true.

if anyone has the skycrane or thinks its really the BEST, then just post a simple reply with only the word "skycrane" in it. We can then tally those votes along on with the others.

make sense?

i don't really agree.

i kept all the choices under two grand (total). thus we are dealing with similarly prices items. and even though the ProAm DVC250 Camera Crane might be the cheapest of the group, you might be hard pressed to convince the group that it is the worst quality.

Yes, I'll be honest. I voted for Kessler because of my research. But, I have to admit, the EZ FX looks to be the superior jib out of this entire list. It's just a little too rich for my blood. But, I feel pretty confident that when I DO get the Kessler in a few weeks, I'll be more than happy with it!...providing it doesn't "shred" my tripod....

Anyone use any of the cranes that fix directly onto your tripod head vs. the legs (i.e. looks like Kessler connects to the head).

I've always thought that was a HUGE no-no to connect to the head ... WAY more torque/weight than those things are rated for, and will wear them out quicker. I think it's a great idea to mount the head onto the end of the crane for some pan/track shots, etc.

Thoughts? I'm more interested in the best-bang-for the buck crane that mounts to the tripod leg, ideally something that's got a ball/claw adapter vs. just a 3/8 bolt connection, as I've got Libec legs, which are ball/claw.

torque isnt as big as a problem as physical weight.. torque is offset by the counter weight.

The head on the end of the crane is a very good idea.. you can get remote heads that let you do just that.

you should look at the Skycrane Jr.. it has its own legs and head, but does some things that most cranes dont... like tilt drag and a full 350 degree vertical camera rotation.
