I can shoot wonderful footage of pop bands doing concerts.

I get phoned by aother band and say 'musician?' Id like to do the filming but suggest some sound recordists.

This usually doesnt end well.

Now folk seem to go to gigs and just record the band with thier phone.

For some reason this seems to sound better than my various XLR sony mics that came with sony cameras

Maybe Im paranoid .. or could the phones be doing some form of AI sound 'improvement'

Could I add such a filter to my recordings?

More generall give four mics and a pop band.. where would you place those mics :)

By “various XLR sony mics that came with sony cameras”, do you mean Sony’s on-camera shotguns?

Those mics aren’t that great, to be honest. More than that, and depending on the environment (i.e. reverberant rooms), those mics may be suffering from some considerable comb filtering.

Yes the stereo one that came with the F3 and the mono that came with the Fs100 or EX1.

Ive recorded OK sound with good control and placement of these mics.

Im just querying that these mics are worse/less appropriate for making an in crowd tiktok than a phone, Id be better to tape my phone onth the camera than use a top mic?

(to be clear ill try and hook to the desk and have suggested they hire an audio engineer!)
 
Maybe for fun, try also recording on your phone next to the boom and seeing for yourself which audio sounds better?

Some years ago I produced a multicam concert and fed the board audio into a Shogun on my monitor cart. Unfortunately one of the channels recorded really hot (my bad for not monitoring it properly, but then again, was directing six cameras so not surprising). I was prepared to just go with the remaining channel as a mono recording, but then realized that the sound engineer had the lead guitar panned hard into the channel that was distorted. I was really unhappy about all of this, but fortunately I knew the guitarist and he suggested that he could just overdub his tracks. It was only five songs, he knocked it out in one take and it was perfect. PHEW!

I use my phone for calling people. and due to downloading issues the memorey is alwaya full, I have now used it for one 'doc shot' being a shot stolen inside a hospital where a normal camera would not be allowed.

This might be another new topic.. do I need a production phone (iphone or samsung)

We are seeing more phones as monitors coming around multicam apps et al.

Also we are seeing that sony might be more open to third party control than canon.. another thing to push me in the souny way!

times they are a changing.
