GH5 The Beautiful Ones - A concept trailer

My first work done on the GH5 (and a DJI Mavic for the first time as well).

A small concept trailer for our first feature film we are in need of funds to make it happen (had a zero budget to make the trailer, 3-4 people on set total).

Working with the GH5 was a breeze. Great 10 bit codec, IBIS, DR using V-LOG and color. Sharpening wasn't as bad as I thought (-5 for sharpening and nr, and a 1/4 Black Pro Mist by Tiffen). Still saw lot's of ghosting using the newest firmware though.

Lenses used were the 12-35mm V1, 20mm 1.7 and 42.5 1.7.

For the feature I'll switch to Sigma ART lenses.

If you want to, please help us make it happen via donations:

Nice! Some great shots, looks really nice.

Some really nice locations, I really like some of your wide shots. I like that you went all in on the jumping gag, too! Just the few beach shots seemed a bit more compromised, but I'm sure you'll revisit, test and nail it if you choose to shoot a sunny beach look again for the feature.

Will watch it again soon, but with the sound on next time! I hope you get to make your feature!

That said, crowdfunding is an increasingly difficult thing. There are many resources online that help to clarify the various complexities of navigating a successful campaign, and it can sometimes take from 6 months to a year of planning and "pre-production" before launching a campaign. But I wish you the best of luck.

Looks very nice. What did you use for gimbal shots ?

The Zhiyun crane (kinda reset itself to factory defaults and I don't know why, lol)

I really hope it works out. And yh, some of these shots will be done in different locations or be fixed for the final movie. Didn't actually want to make it look too expensive, like it doesn't need any funding, haha.

VERY nice ! Some really great shots and moves there, and very engaging, so much so, I watched the trailer properly and totally forgot to pixel peep ! Just out of curiosity, did you find the Pro Mist added something you couldn't achieve in post ?

Did you shoot the "Americanah - Full Concept Film " too? It's sort of amazing how deep and saturated those colors are in that film and yours are using the GH4 and GH5. Any settings or workflow in color you could share?

Here's another question. I've always thought the a6500 would be the better camera on a gimbal for AF, but how are you racking focus with the GH5? Is it by touch screen? Your focusing is spot on the gimbal.

Glad you like it. Americanah was shot on the GH4, the GH5 behaves waayyy better in colorgrading. The 10 bit codec is amazing to work with (in Resolve).
I actually pull focus on my Zhiyun Crane (works fine, but will probably kill it sooner or later I think...)

The Pro Mist or other diffusion filters like the Black Satin are a must, if you want a creamy look. They blend highlights together beautifully and get rid of artificial sharpening inside the GH5 (yh, even at -5).

Nice work!

For my money, I'd like to see a tighter teaser. There are a meaningful number of shots that don't clearly drive the narrative - like the one where your male lead is doing some sort of kata in the water - that if cut, would be give me more confidence as a potential viewer that the full-length piece would not meander. (Kill your babies!)

I love me some diffusion filters, too. Black Pro Mist is a go to in my kit. They take off the edge, as you said, and also help tame contrast, in a way that is hard to replicate in post (mostly by bringing light into the shadows.)

Very nice!

Out of curiosity to the OP and to others chiming in about Black Pro mist filters: What strengths are you typically working with?
