The Battle For Solace Music Video

the lighting on the band performance set seemed kinda flat to me...maybe it would have helped if the band was spread apart a bit more from each other and not all lined up? Regardless, great video overall.

I liked it good editing, and I liked how the band was against the black background that was done well, and I liked the rim lighting on them it was cool. However the story didn't really fit with the style of the music, it seemed a little home-movie/cute at the beginning. I love this style of music, I was just expecting more struggle between people as opposed to two people dating and walking around. The film grain was a little too intense, I think if it were made a little more opaque or something it would seem more natural. But overall good video, great camerawork, great editing, and great music. Good job!

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yeah the story was a hard thing to come up with in the end... I pitched this idea to the band and they liked the whole idea of it at the time but in the end I don't think it came together as well as we wanted. We were working on a small budget too... called in a lot of favours so we ended up being happy with what we got. I'm just hoping this video will lead to more work where I can make videos that have a stronger and more 'interesting' story line, since this was the first video I had done with a proper storyline.

Oh well, I guess we have to learn from our mistakes!

The editing was nice and story (although it didn't really fit the song) flowed well. Try being a bit more creative with your shots, throw some focus pulls in there and close ups with a shallow dof. The whole thing just screemed video to me, maybe thats what you were going for? Good job overall!

Yeah since I don't have an external monitor and a 35mm adapter I didn't really want to muck around too much with focus pulls etc. I'm aware I could do still muck around with focus pulls with the stock lens, but I hadn't tried much of that stuff before and I just wanted to stick to stuff I basically knew would work. Thanks for the comment!
