The Avengers... it doesn't make sense.

I look forward to it, because it's rare we see a mesh of super heroes in one movie... but... I don't like that Thor is part of the Avengers. Origin of the story aside and comic book stuff aside, it doesn't make sense. Capt. America, Iron Man, Hulk... they were all made via technology and it's plausible in a sense. But Thor... he's a freakin' "God" from another Universe! It just kills the whole logic of all the other movies, especially Iron Man. As you can tell by my avatar, I'm an Iron Man fan of sorts and to have a "God" from another Universe in the same story as Iron Man is just stupid. It just kills all logic and believability -- by Thor being in there drags the whole thing down, in my view. While I'm aware he's mainly there for the women crowd, as a guy who liked the stories of Iron Man and Hulk (Capt. American was cool too) -- it just doesn't sit well with me... hmm. :Drogar-Smoke(DBG):

Who's to say Thor's power doesn't come from technology? It could just be a technology we don't understand. Arthur C. Clarke said any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. They even hinted at that in the movie, Thor saying magic and science are one and the same where he comes from.

Hulk being a radioactive beastman seems about as plausible as a god to me... Iron Man and Captain America, sure they are products of advanced technology. But I'd put Hulk and Thor in the same pile.

But I'd say the movie is supposed to be enjoyed on a superficial dazzled kind of level anyway.

Yeah I'm putting Hulk in the same Fantasy category as Thor and... well the rest of them.

Also, being Swedish, Marvel Thor has about as much to do with actual Norse mythology as Jason Voorhees does with playing Hockey.

Thor isn't a god per se. He's an alien. Their "magic" is highly advanced tech. The movie did a good job of explaining this. He'll fit in with the team beautifully. You'll see.

Not to mention Thor specifically said in his own movie that in Asgard, magic and technology are one and the same.

But the Hulk was created through a diaster from a SCIENCE experiment. Thor... he's... a "GOD" from another Universe. It's just... AHHHH! Okay, I guess I should just turn off logic when I watch this. Lol.

I sense this movie is going to be a big, big disappointment. Too many characters to (not) develop, and each unique character's Universe is just too different from each other. Each character requires a different "tone" to work. By mixing them up, I find it very diffficult to work. Either turn up the cheese and the humor and assume this as ridiculous, or focus in one particular character to give it time to develop and for the audience to take it seriously. I sense it will be Fantastic Four (or the first XMen ) all over again.

i think the problem is that you think something is 'plausible', by placing it under the umbrella of science or technology.

mash-ups and origin stories are fan-based fantasies, they should not have been made in the first place. rehashing old and episodic comics, not telling any kind of story, no character development, no goals, no new comic ideas. nothing innovative will ever come from it. i don't think they even change the villains, and heroes only kill villains by accident. the whole thing is a mess to begin with.

I agree with this, to an extent. However, I know it's gonna be a fun movie to watch and I'm sure direction will be tip top considering who is at the helm. But with the illogical elements, I won't be as thrilled as I was for, say, Iron Man or Iron Man 2 since it's believable.

Completely disagree.
Reason 1: Joss Whedon. Character interplay is his core competency. He's a writer at his core and has strengthened his visual sense over the years. Most other directors have this equation reversed.
Reason 2: Think of this film the way you'd think of Empire Strikes Back, Aliens, or Toy Story 2. Movie 1 sets up the characters. We get to know them. Movie 2 lets the characters lose, allowing them to deal with each other and their current situation. The central characters in the Avengers have already appeared in their own films (Some have even had two films). We know the characters. Now we get to see them change.

The main criticism of comicbook films is too much setup by way of perpetual origin stories. I'm glad that we've finally gotten to the point where we can simply enjoy an adventure story with established characters without having to endure another paint by numbers hero's journey of sorts.

I don't see why the Avengers comic book worked but the Avengers movie is destined to fail. And as far as development goes, all the major heroes have had their own films and the minor heroes have made appearances in those films. Personally, I think this is a great way to tackle a project like this because you don't have exposition for a half dozen characters to slog through since that was all handled in preceding films. If the Avengers movie just came out of the blue w/o the other movies (Thor, Iron-man, Captain America, etc.,) I'd share some of your concerns.
